Trac bar help.....

OK, I had my truck lifted back in Feb. or March. It wasn't till a few weeks later I started to notice this odd sound and felt something shifting/bumping coming from the rear. After a while, I had Nissan take in the truck to see what the problem was. They tested it for 2 full days before returning it and confirming to me that it was axle wrap. So, from that point, I started planning on getting trac bars. At this point, I've made several phone calls to different off road shops. 4 Wheel Parts obviously sells the PC trac bars at a good price and never said how the trac bars wold help me or not. I called around to some smaller shops and, so far, two of them have told me that trac bars (I'm hearing the term "ladder" bars as well) don't even do anything for a truck--they're mostly for show. In fact, one guy said the Titan was not even designed to take trac bars. ?????? Now, I know that quite a few of you guys have them, whether they be PC or PRG. Do they work? Do they work on street only. Are they for off roaders? I'm just really confused at this point from all I've been told. I plan on calling Greg today, since he knows a lot about these trucks and makes some fantastic trac bars from what I hear. Any advice I get would be highly appreciated

Ihave the PRG bars and yes they work. The design also still allows your rear to cycle unlike many other designs.

Re: Trac bar help.....

Sounds like the PC ones are not nearly as good as the PRG ones, and the FabTech are really crap.

Here is what PrerunnerGreg said about the various ones back in Aug. 2005 when he was designing his, [my bolding about the PC]:
"As for the traction bars, here's the scoop. The procomp bars are actually ok, if you like that look but they are a one-size-fits-all application, which can cause spring bind and you will loose travel and ride quality.

The fabtech bars claim to "float" but the reality is that they are mounted solidly to the rear end, and they force the axle to rotate about the front pivot (even though it is floating) and this is really bad for ride and is hell on the springs. Imagine this, if you have 10" of travel, the front pivot "should" move up and down 10" with the axle. Neat idea for a drag car with 2" of movment, but not for my truck.

The bars im working on [PRG Offroad traction bars] will be 1.5" .120 wall DOM tubing, in a triangle shape to help protect the driveshaft a little bit and add strength, use a 3/4 teflon-lined heim on one end and a urethane bushing on the other. It will use a different spring plate that will replace the stock one and add protection to the nuts on the u-bolts, and the other end will mount to the side of the frame (it will be welded, cringe...shreek!!). But its about a 30 minute job to mount and will allow a full 12" of suspension travel without binding the springs, while completely eliminating axle wrap."

Yeah, after talking with greg and reading up on it I decided to go with the PRG street bars. Man, I can't wait to get 'em on
