PRG Mini Lift Questions

I am sure these questions have been asked before, but I just wish to get prepared before my lift arrives on Tuesday....

1) what size sockets do I need to install the lift? Metric/ standard? Deep well or standard?

2) can I do it without popping the ball joint?

I realize there are intstructions with the lift, just wanting to make sure I have necessary tools beforehand since I am off right now.... been a while since toolbox has been dusted off, so some knowledge ahead of time will save me a trip to the local sears.

Thanks

Re: PRG Mini Lift Questions

You can't do it without popping the ball joint, but it's not that big a deal if you do it like the instructions say to. I don't remember all the sizes of sockets, but they are metric. I can go look at my instructions and let you know the sizes if you'd like.

Re: PRG Mini Lift Questions

Lets see. 14, 17, 19, 12. Those are what I see in the instructions. The 12 I think HAS to be a deep well. That's the one for the bump stop.

On a side note, I don't think the new hardware you'll put on is metric. I think it's SAE.

You'll also need a 3/8 drill bit. And a torque wrench good for 90 ft/lbs.

Good luck.

Re: PRG Mini Lift Questions

No worries. You doing it by yourself? If so, give yourself about 4 hours, just to be safe, and get an alignment done immediately afterwards. Floor jack is helpful, but I managed mine without it. You'll love the way it looks when done.

How the heck did you do it without a floor jack?

I would also recomend, as far as tools go, A brass hammer to pop the ball joint loose after a liberal soaking of WD40.

PS, don't forget to go out and get some 35's when you are done too.

Re: PRG Mini Lift Questions

I remember having to buy some size 20's socket(s) as well. It's been too long, can't remember exact size(s).

I was a determined individual. I couldn't get my hands on one on the day I wanted to get the lift done. The weekend before, I had TWO helpers, and a floor jack lined up. It rained. The next weekend they both cr@pped out on me, so I did it by myself, without the floor jack. Never underestimate the power of stubbornness.

Re: PRG Mini Lift Questions

The only prob. I had was the "17mm" nuts on the sway bar seemed more like 16.5. Wrenches and sockets kept spinning out. And they were Craftsman not Tiwan. Took me an hour and a half inclueding pulling out and putting away tools. Way easy. And personally 35s look way to big. On a six inch lift they are perfect. Leveling kit only, I'll have to disagree. I love my 33s.

Re: PRG Mini Lift Questions

You should need a 9/16 deep for the new bumpstops & if you have 4wd, try not to not pull the inner cv out of the hsng. Not too big of a deal, just pop it back in if you do pull it out.

Me too TK. Those sway nuts aren't convenient to get to, and they are cranked down.

Hour and a half? You're my idol.

Re: PRG Mini Lift Questions

Thanks for all the suggestions....

Unfortunately the links did not come up for me

Yes, Floor jack is under the ole stairs... Old, but still mighty useful. Even have a block or two of 4"x4" pieces of oak to throw on just in case. and yes, it is a 4wd.

I agree, 35's look a bit too big, but was wanting to go higher than the stock 265x70x18. a 305 or even a 325 if it will fit. Read some posts saying people had both. Though I am having problems getting the sizes to pop up correctly on the various tire sites... Keep floating back and forth on various threads getting the info writing and such...

It looks like I will be going with either the Revo, or the Kuhmos.... mainly for budget reasons... Ideally would get BFG but hey, we gotta do what we gotta do. If I can find a 305 in a 18 then I am there... just hard to find.

Re: PRG Mini Lift Questions

Just wanted to say thanks again to everyone for the advice before I put the mini lift in. Took us just about 2.5 hours.... no jack stands, just a regular hydraulic floor jack and the ole scissors jack from under the seat.

Think the hardest thing for us was getting enough lift to get the rear springs off the perches.... aside from that smooth as silk...

Thanks again all, including Greg... Much appreciated...
