vibrations

i've noticed this very fine vibration in the steering wheel and through out the truck when the truck is going between 20mph-35mph. it also happens when i'm braking. i've had the brake judder before but doesn't seem like it. anyone else experince this? anyone know what it is? I don't want to take it to the dealer because i know they won't fix it. i got the prg mini lift and don't want them to use that as an excuse, don't have time for their bs.

Re: vibrations

Yes, I have the same problem with mine, a vibration @ or around 60 - 85mph, taking it down to dealer, could be a sticking caliper, warp rotor or ring & pinon.

Re: vibrations

It's amazing what a good tire rotation and balancing schedule will do for vibrations in a vehicle. I'm not saying that's either of your issues, but it should be a consideration. I'm as guilty as the next guy for not following a good schedule.

Re: vibrations

Good geuss but had all suspension torqued and wheels aligned. We did notice the pass tire did rotate as freely as driver, smack caliper with rubber hammer then it was ok. My vibration is mechanical no question.

Re: vibrations

Im gonna guess either an inbalance tire issue, even maybe a seperating tread if the tires still balance but it vibrates badly (usually really badly). The other thing that has shown on some 2wd is the carrier bearing bushing can be very "loose". There is a simple solution and that is inserting a small strip of rubber between the bearing top hat and the rubber bushing, jsut to firm the bushing up and keep things located a bit better. This is usually only noticable under hard acceleration though.

Re: vibrations

the vibration started after the mini lift was installed, not right after maybe 500 miles later. on the way from work, i was like $hit, this thing is a piece of $hit, the vibration was really noticable around 20 to 30 mph throughout the truck and steering wheel, i felt like running the truck into a wall. i know it's not from the road because before i got the lift, the vibration wasn't there.

back to the tires, if it's seperating, would i visually see it? the tires have no sign of seperating. I'm so sick of going to the dealer like every other month, i know when i take it, their going to say it's from the lift and that it's not our problem. i'm so upset, i'm about to blow up...

oh greg, you have already installed the rubber piece into the carrier bearing. i did have the vibration upon hard accleration, that's gone now. i have this crap now...

Re: vibrations

I have a slight vibration too but it is only when I am braking and only at low speeds. It started after I had my leveling kit installed too. I have not had it checked out because it is very, very light, but I think it may have to do with tire balancing or alignment. My truck still looks like it is toed in a little and I am wondering if that is the problem. I did have a 4 wheel alignment after the install and the shop said it was within specs. I am wondering if the camber kit will be necessary. I also rotated my tires the day I had it aligned so that may have something to do with it as well. I have an '06 4X4.

Re: vibrations

i just rotated my tires and it feels smoother. i only felt the vib when i was braking. i had my brother take it for a test drive and said that it's feels good, no vibrations at all. he said that i'm on crack..

what is the chamber kit you're (techetitan)taking about? I haven't taken it to an alignment or balancing after the kit was installed.

Re: vibrations

Just installed the 2" mini lift and went for said alignment but the shop I went to, could not get the sensors on the rims to do the alignment. Old alignment machine I guess. In any event, With the truck up on the alignment rack we checked out everything.... and due to the lift and the new tires I had installed, you can clearly see the inside of the tires is not on the ground and that the tires are leaning out with the insides barely touching the ground.

Needless to say I was directed to another shop where I have an appt to get her aligned this Tuesday.

I am also not getting any vibrations at all yet, but only have like 50 miles on new tires and lift. I am trying not to drive at all till I get the alignment done.

A couple of things you can have the dealership check are the steering and the brakes themselves (04 has a service bulletin out for brake replacement). I had to have both the brakes and sterring replaced and or adjusted before I got said lift put on due to vibrations and such. Please keep in mind, I had stock goodyears on truck and have only put 9000 miles on it in 1 year 4 months. The brakes and steering were done around 4000 miles so cannot say if that is something which was corrected since then.

I would definitely get the alignment done asap unless you are wanting to get new tires real soon.

Mudfinder you definately need to get your truck aligned! That might be your problem because I am sure your truck is toed in quite a bit after lifting the front.
The camber kit I am talking about consists of bolts for your lower control arms to allow for camber adjustments while aligning. The '06 models do not come with them but the '04 and '05 models did. Just have your truck aligned and see how that helps. It might be driving straight and true now but I am sure it is out of spec.

Re: vibrations

You HAVE to adjsut the toe, no matter what, after installation. If the toe is off, everything else will be out also. We have super soft rubber buchings on the upper and lower a-arms, and if the wheels are being pulled together or pushed apart from the wheels not rolling parralle, then everything will be out of whack.
