Cutting Fender wells? who's done it, pics?

who's had to cut there fender wells, and was curious if you might have pics of it.

mine is rubbing on the front fender wells, the back inside part when i turn the wheel all the way. i have 35's on pro comp rims that are backset i believe 4-3/4".

i was just thinking of pulling the plastic liner then cutting a small chunk off the corner then putting the plastic back but pulling it a touch tighter to eliminate the rubbing.

any suggestions? i'd post some pics but not enough posts yet, will get there soon enough tho .

thanks for everyone's help on this forum, been a great place to get info before and after buying my Titan.

JC

Search pinch weld mod. The way most people did looks likes it takes along time. I did it with a sawzall, took less than 5 minutes.

We're running 37" BFG AT's on KMC wheels with a 4.25" backspace, with only our coilover providing about 3" of lift. So far, the pinch weld was bent over from the bottom up to the second liner tab. I cut the liner down to a piece that covers from the engine up to the pinch weld. We also adjusted the alignment to move the lower arm as far forward as possible (back cam rotated all the way out), and then corrected the toe. I have no rubbing at all while on the street, turning into off camber driveways, or hitting onramps at speed. The true test will be next weekend when I get it off road.

Once I land it a few times (no...not like Greg did with his Titan )we'll see where the rubber is accumulating and start cutting. Our Engineer anticipates having to cut a teardrop shape into the outer firewall, about 1/2-inch back (deep?) along the bottom and tapering up to that second tab. A far more talented TIG Welder than I'll ever be would then cap off the teardrop shaped hole.

I guess I should also note that the truck has Glassworks fenders, so there's no clearance issue there to worry about. I'll take some pictures if/when we cut the firewall, though it may be a while until we can get to it.

Nice job man! What are the chances that you would be willing to make up a few more sets of those? And if so, how much?

Thank you, very kind words...but I've got sooo many projects going on and simply not enough time to do them

I'm on the fence about keeping my truck or trading it in for a 06' or 07' model...I simply can not afford to buy a diesel, so if it's going to be a "gasser" I love the Titan!

If I keep it, then I have several bumper projects for it.
I have my own welders(TIG & MIG) and hydraulic tube bender, sheetmetal tools and other fab tools, so I do all my own work...still not enough time!

Re: Cutting Fender wells? who's done it, pics?

I had to cut mine before I could even move it after putting my new wheels on when I lifted my truck. I could only turn the wheels about 4 inches at first.

I know it sounds barbaric, but on my old 4Runner I just rolled the pinch weld over with a sledge hammer.
