Question Front coilovers

So i've seen some people slam the Pro Comp coilovers that come with their stage 2 kit. Why? If someone wants a better than stock, but not full race coilover, what should they get and why? I don't want to break the bank and I don't go off road much. I read the four wheeler magazine write up on their project titan and they liked the pro comps. Granted they later went to fox shocks or were going to. Let me know please and thanks in advance.

Re: Front coilovers

I asked the same question a while ago and nobody gave me a good reason. One guy said it was because the ProComps were stiffer than stock, which I prefer. Another said he had one of the first coilovers produced and they blew out, but ProComp has sinced fixed that problem and they replaced his shocks free of charge. I have the ProComps and I'm happy with them for the most part. I wish they had a little more rebound damping, though. If I had to do it all over again, though, I'd have gone with the stage I kit and spent the extra money on Bilstein shocks for the rear. If you don't offroad much, I don't think you need any aftermarket coilover. It's just not worth the money, IMO.

Re: Front coilovers

I believe the reason why people rag on procomp coilovers is because for the pride difference you can get a better performing shock. I'm new to trucks so I don't know how to explain why. I think its something to do with the spring rates and rebound pairing.

I have radflos on and while I don't do offroading yet I feel its a good investment. bumps hve been smoothed out in the sense tha the truck doesn't feel like its floating around; rather it feels more responsive. but then again I also plan to start taking it on the dirt in the future...just nice to know that I have a good setup thanks to greg.

Re: Front coilovers

I'm guessing that was a typo, but I think you're right about the "pride" difference. The Radflo's on Greg's site are $1,250. The stage II kit is $800 more, but that also includes upgraded rear shocks which are about $100 more than the stage I rear shocks. So the ProComp coilovers are about $700. I have no doubt that the radflos are much better shocks. They have custom valving, remote reservoir to keep the gas cool, etc. They'd be great for a serious offroader. I just think they're overkill for a truck that's primarily on the street. If you've got the money, go for it. If I had the funds, I'd probably do it, too, just to have them...you know...the "pride" difference. But in retrospect, I wish I had just gone for the stage I kit and saved the money, but with Bilstein's on the back.

Re: Front coilovers

If you want a good shock and want to save some money get a Radflo 2.0 from PRG.

Re: Front coilovers

I looked on PRG's website and didn't see anything for the Radflo 2.0. Kartman, do you have any info on it?
