hey guys,
just ordered 6 in ProComp lift. i usually do all my own light mechanic work and do have all the tools and equipment to do this job except i have never done a lift. has anybody done this kit themselves and if so can u give me ur feedback about things i might encounter (like needing to buy longer bolts or cut some shorter, welding or cutting brackets, etc.) that cause this lift to be a little less than the standard bolt-on that it is supposed to be.
You shouldn't have to cut or weld anything. It is definately a 2 person job. I did mine in a friends garage. Took about 11 hours. If we were to jump right in and do another one right afterward, it would take maybe 7 hours. Make sure you get it jacked up off the floor far enough when you start to account for the added lift. You might have problems getting the hubs loose from the spindles, spray them down before hand. It also takes a large socket to get the axle nuts loose on the front cv shafts. If memory serves, its a 32mm (someone correct me if I'm wrong). That should be about the only "special" unordinary tool you'd need. When I installed mine, I did not bother with taking the front differential out like it says in the instructions. I also had problems getting the brake lines loose, make sure you have a set of line wrenches. That's about all I can offer.
hey 54warrior that looks like my truck! well, what it is gonnan look alike after my lift. what tires do u have and can u post a larger picture of ur avatar?
I have installed both the CST and the Procomp. The Procomp is far easier I think to install. Ill think twice before doing another CST. Its an easy install. Just clean everything underneath good with a pressure washer will help with stuff falling in your face. Make sure you have the right sockets and wrenches before you start and spray bolts with penetrating lube first.
(14mm,17mm,19mm,21mm,22mm,32mm sockets and wrenches) Air tools help.
I hope I didnt forget a size? Oh and make sure the truck is level....
Hope this helps

U-bolts, blocks, and install a few simple brake line extension brackets. The lines themselves remain the same. Should take <1hr for the rear.

put it this way,i have an 07 crewcab. i have never put a lift kit on a truck before, nor helped in any.me and my buddy who is not "mechanically inclined" put it on in a weekend.the directions are pretty good-youre going to run into things here and there but youll be ok in my opinion. my quote to have it installed was close to a grand, so i figured id give it a shot and save the money and it turned out perfect!
Dude i installed my own lift and it took me the hole weekend but i changed out the hole back i installed the prg shackles and the deaver lift springs also i did the prg front uper control arms it was a lil harder BUT im sitting on 37" tires and some dub duses lol...
