Giddy As A Schoolboy

Just got off the phone with Greg, and I'll have my new suspension installed Monday, March 19th by Mr. PRG himself! I'm getting the 4" Performance Package with SAW's for a 4WD. I'm going with the Radflos in the rear, as well as the TC shackles and Off-Road Traction Bars.

Thanks i<3mytitan, LAfirefytr, and brettf. You guys were right. Calling Greg was by far the best advice. He answered every one of my questions, and then some. Super cool guy. And while I probably won't be flying through the air like Kartman (your pics and vids rock!), I know I'll be able to handle most terrain (on and off-road) at speed.

I'll post some before and after pics as soon as the truck is done. I'll have to remember to schedule an alignment for the afternoon of the 19th... don't want any wear/ride problems. Thanks again everyone. This site rocks!

Sweet CHUD! That is exactly the setup I want if I don't convince myself to drop the loot on the mid travel kit. Definately give us some before and after pics!

Re: Giddy As A Schoolboy

I might eventually upgrade to the mid travel setup. For the time being, I'll be using the stock 18" wheels with BFG AT 285/65R18. The tires are relatively new. Figured I'd get as much as I can out of them, and then possibly spend a couple grand on new wheels and tires. Maybe then I'd go with some fiberglass fenders in the front. Greg said they were necessary with the MT kit. If I remember right, he said the kit moves the wheels/tires out 3". Anyhow, these mods add up, and I had a hard enough time convincing my wife that Performance Package was really necessary!

Re: Giddy As A Schoolboy

I completely understand. Im having a hard time convincing my bank account that either setup is necessary but Im going to do it eventually. Did you ever ask Greg what he felt was the largest tires you could put on with the performance package? I am hoping with either setup that I can get the Hankook DynaPro MTs on at 315/70R17. They are actually 34.6x12.7 so I don't know if they are going to be too wide. They will definately fit with the mid travel with glass fenders but not sure about with the performance package.

How much preload are you running on the SAWs? How much total lift are you getting in the front? EDIT: Got so pumped I got ahead of you. You don't have it on yet so you wont obviously be able to answer that yet. :-)

Re: Giddy As A Schoolboy

Well, from what I've read on this site as well as others, you can easily fit 35's on your truck with just a 2 to 2.5 inch leveling kit. It depends on the backspacing of the wheel you upgrade to. I'm curious though: Are you sure of the dimensions of the tire you specified? 315mm = 12.4in. The tires you're considering might be 325mm, which would be closer to 12.7in (12.8in rounded). I'm not sure that it makes a difference. I'm relatively confident, though, that you would be able to fit the tire with the Performance Package no matter what the exact width is. I would ask around here and make sure you get a wheel with the right backspace value. You might still have to do the pinch weld mod, remove or reshape your fender liners, and remove your mudflaps (if you haven't already).

With respect to the preload on the SAWs, Greg said that 3in of lift seems to be the sweet spot. You start having problems when you exceed 3.5in, at least with a 4wd. That's fine by me. I'm interested in function more than looks. But honestly, I think your truck would look great if you decided on just the Performance Package. Although it would look pretty slick with the glass fenders and the MT kit! I'm not sure what I'll do. I want to play with the Performance Package a bit and see how it handles. I guess it depends on how hard core you are. I myself am little reluctant to fly in my daily driver!

Re: Giddy As A Schoolboy

Those were the specs for that tire (Hankook DynaPro MT RT03) off their website measured on a 9.5" rim. I think I am going to go with a 17x8.5 rim from American Racing with right around 5" of BS. I just want the lift to be able to clear the tires without rubbing and minimal trimming. I know its not a big deal but I don't like grinding on my baby if I don't absolutely have to. Im not sure I would actually send this truck flying through the air so I don't know if I need the MT kit either but it would sure be cool to have the option.
