Broke my first shackle...

Broke and I haven't even hit the dirt yet...And no, I haven't been jumping it either.
I have been hitting a few good dips here around town, but man not like some guys have....We pulled it off tonite and rolled the sleeve back up and re-welded it so i can get around. Bad design, a failure waiting to happen.
This is the right side, and will be installing a set from Greg.

Hey, that looks like the same thing that happened to me back in January. Passenger side went out. Waiting for the drivers side to be next.

Mine was replaced with a shackle for an F-150. Bolted right up and only cost me $50

Re: Broke my first shackle...

Is the entire seam welded on these? It looks like there are only 2 tack welds holding it together!!!

NO!....After seeing how these were built, I would have pulled them and thrown down a bead across the seam. The rubber bushing would take a little heat, but that would keep the shackle from "un-rolling"

I was supposed to go to Mexico a couple of weeks ago for the race, but this would have failed for sure down there.

Nope. I only noticed 2 tack welds on each corner on mine also.

Like I said, I'm waiting for the driver side to go, otherwise I may just replace soon anyway so the spring doesn't go through the bottom of the box.

Re: Broke my first shackle...

Looks like I will be pulling mine and laying a good bead down when I get my lift...

Get the TC shackles, worth every penny if you are planning major roading, if not beef up the stock ones.

I heard about that, but i've never trusted ford's quality ever.

I don't want to lose any lift though. I'm sure Greg will come up with something come lift time.

Re: Broke my first shackle...

Same thing happened to me in October. I got a ride to the dealer, they gave me a new one and i returned the old. covered under warrenty. I didn't want to take to the dealer because of my lift.
I've been checking them every month or so for future failure.

It was an aftermarket part for an F-150 that I got at a local spring shop. Not actually from Ford itself.

Besides, I'm going on visit #21 to the dealer later this week and if you look around this site, I wouldn't say Nissan's quality is very stellar either.

Re: Broke my first shackle...

I believe the Ford shackle is a little wider around the spring eye...You don't want to overtighten the shackle just because it's not the correct one...
