Decisions decisions...

Hey guys. I am pulling my hair out here. I'm trying to decide what direction I want to take my truck. I can either go with Greg's 4WD LT (MT) kit of go with a really nice CST setup that includes: CST 4WD 7" lift, 2.5 coilovers, TC uppers, air bumps, deaver rear pack, and a 2.0 shock. You guys know what's included in the MT kit by now. Either way, the suspension should be pretty stout and be able to handle whatever I can dish out. Having a newborn son, I find myself being way more sane on the trails than I used to.

The reason for the confusion, I mostly do trail driving along with light rock crawls (once the lift is on). I don't go out to the desert and flog the truck. I'd hate to push the truck too far and destroy it for a momentairy lapse in judgement. Also, I'm afraid the width of the new MT kit will affect my ability to fit on most trails. I went off roading this weekend and had to force my way through a lot of places with my glass fenders on. Which had me re thinking my vision for the truck. I definately will need true ground clearance, so I don't know which kit would be best. I don't want to be getting hung up on obstacles all the time. Any advice?

Thanks!
Casey

I guess w/ the way you use it (trails, slower off road stuff) I'd just go w/ the CST lift. I think the MT kit might be a little overkill and you wouldn't have as much lift (which you need for your type of ORing).

That being said the MT kit looks really nice and would be hard to pass up.

Re: Decisions decisions...

If the price was right, I would just do both. But something tells me the cost would be way too high.

Another thing that worries me is the offset track width with the MT kit. I don't know if it would make manuvering in tight spots more difficult.....

I think you're just getting tired of waiting for the MT kit, lol. Have fun with either choice you pick. Good luck.

Re: Decisions decisions...

Keep in mind, true ground clearance comes from larger tires. So I guess you really need to figure what size tire you're going to go with. I'm kinda old-school when it comes to lifting/off-roading, I guess. I would determine just how large of a tire you want. If it's a 35, the MT kit would be more than enough lift, plus you'll get more suspension travel. Also, the higher you physically lift your vehicle, the higher you shift your center of gravity. This can be a bad thing on truly technical trails, and would be another reason to go MT (4") instead of CST (7").

I don't know that I'd be too concerned about the wider track in the front. After all, we have half-ton pickups. If I wanted something for rock crawling or technical trails, I'd go with an old Landcruiser or Jeep, or maybe a Scout II. The Titan's wheelbase is a tad long for this application.

Either way, your truck will be much better than stock with a suspension upgrade. I currently have the PRG Performance Pkg. and love it. I'll probably upgrade to the MT kit in the next few months.

perhaps, but have you seen the way PRG and Kartman beat theirs?

Yellow, stop pulling your hair out and go with the 7" CST kit, you'll still be able to hammer it and not blink an eye! just make sure to get the right c/o's in front, preferably the SAWs, which i absolutely love over the DRs. you're making me pull my hair out reading your threads on what to get... j/k

you can always get the MT kit in the future if you feel like you REALLY need it and recoup the money spent on the CST kit by parting out with some of the front components.

Re: Decisions decisions...

I spoke with Greg tonight. I will be getting the CST 7" with radflo 2.5 coilovers, camburg uppers, Deaver mini pack, radflo 2.0 shocks, and some other stuff I forgot. Hopefully, if the stuff is in stock (he's going to call me tomorrow), we will be installing on friday.

excellent set-up! i've got the radflo 2.0s in the rear and i'm pleased with their dampening! the valving is just right! with that set-up bro and with all four corners reservoired you can probably run that hard without blowing your dampening when you get that itch to do some high-speed runs! congratulations!

Re: Decisions decisions...

MT or a shorter mix and match lift. 7 inches of lift is far more than needed and will just give you a overly high center of gravity.

But it will give me more body to boulder clearance till Greg's rock sliders are ready. Not to mention I will be able to run 37's to get more clearance.

Re: Decisions decisions...

Yellowmantis,

Where exactly do they have technical off-road/rock in So-Cal? I'm used to Telluride, Vail, Gunnsion, etc. Didn't know we had that terrain here.

There are areas around. You just need to do a little research. Hungry Valley has a 4x4 specific area. Rumor has it that the San Gabriel Cyn OHV area is going to totally rebuild the place into an off road mecca of sorts. There are places, you just gotta find them.
