Does the spring helper mod make the ride stiffer though? My truck rides so rough already I am thinking about removing a leaf spring, has anyone done that yet by the way?

Yes, the helpers stiffen the ride a bit, as does just using a clamp on the springs. It is a tradeoff, it lowers the truck a bit by compressing the springs, which makes them stiffer and thus resists axle wrap. But it makes the ride a little stiffer.

Many people (including me) have replaced the overload leaf with a Deaver spring pack from PRG.

www.prgproducts.com also sells lowering springs that maintain load and towing capacity, as well as heavy duty shackles.
