Re: Prg Heavy Duty Shackle Install W/ Pics

So how much more difficult is the install for those of us with the bedside toolbox? I'm thinking about getting some of these (not for the fact that I offroad), but rather reassurance that the stock shackle doesn't go through my bed for some odd reason. I think the price of the shackles is much cheaper than the price to fix a bed...

IMO the toolbox is a PITA. If I need to touch that bolt again I'm drilling a socket sized hole in the toolbox then covering it with duct tape when I'm done. I need to go back and mess with it some more because the box is out of alignment now, I wish I would have just drilled the hole from the beginning as some others here have done.

But definitely get the shackles! They are beefy.

Ha, you know me too well. I'm going to order them next month (when I take my C/O's off and get them back to him). Figured I might as well...

Anyways, you're saying drill a hole in the side of the toolbox? Won't water and debris make its way in there?

Just a little hole on the inner wall, you could get a socket on that bolt with a couple of extensions by just opening the toolbox door. Then duct tape when done!

Or remove the box, maybe it won't fight you as much as it did me.

Re: Prg Heavy Duty Shackle Install W/ Pics

While duct tape may work, you could do something a little nicer and sturdier and put a little block-off plate or something over the hole.

DARNIT!!!!!! I figured I was smarter than Nissan and did precisely that...they aren't hitting the frame now, but I went back out and looked at it last night and I can see that it would hit the frame if I bottomed out the suspension. Will have to fix that before I go wheeling next....by the way, these shackles are awesome!

Re: Prg Heavy Duty Shackle Install W/ Pics

OK so here comes dogstar with his questions. While looking over your pictures (nice touch) I started to wonder about the strength of the shackle mount that is attached to the frame. It doesn't look all that beefy. So now that you have replaced the shackle is this now the weak spot in the equation?

Re: Prg Heavy Duty Shackle Install W/ Pics

So far, not a problem. It is the same strength as the frame et al. The main problem with the OEM Shackles, was that it could peel apart, not break the steel. Construction of the remaining parts is pretty industry standard stuff, so I wouldn't worry about that. I had same thoughts, and this is the conclusion I've come to. Just my opinion.

Re: Prg Heavy Duty Shackle Install W/ Pics

Well, had plenty of time and rare Washington sunshine this weekend to get under the Titan and remove those bolts and reinstall them properly. Didn't take long at all the second time around with the old man's help! Working on cars and trucks is one of the better things to do with Dad on Father's Day!

I noticed you had the leaf spring bolt through the lower set of holes on the shackle, Is this where I would put my bolt. I don't have a lift ( stock)

Re: Prg Heavy Duty Shackle Install W/ Pics

The photo shows stock height mounting. The other holes are advertised to provide a drop of 1/2 inch (the middle hole) and 1 inch (the hole on the end closest to the truck bed). You should be able to confirm this by measuring the distance between the holes on the stock shackle.
