Stock Rancho Shock Replacement

Hey guys ive got an 05 KC 4x4 OF with 36000 miles and a 2.5 NCD leveling kit and 1" rear blocks. I'm getting a clunking sound from underneath my feet when i hit small bumps while driving. I know the rancho's suck so i think i need a replacement for my stock ones, what would you recomend in my situation?

Re: Stock Rancho Shock Replacement

My recommendation is for you to call Greg over at prgproducts.com. He sell Bilstein replacement shocks that are much better than the stock Ranchos. They are very reasonably priced and will not cost you an arm and a leg (if that's what you're not looking to do.)

....Next we have the new Bilstein Titan replacement shocks. We will be selling the shocks for $89ea free shipping. But you can find better pricing from internet based companies. What we do offer is to assembly them for you for a fee and charge a core fee on your old struts (for the springs). This will allow you to replace your factory strut assembly in about 15 minutes vs breaking down the strut with a spring compressor and reassembling them. Price for the assembled Bilsteins is $119 (free shipping) and a $25 core charge to be returned to you upon us receiving your old shocks. we have these assembled and ready to ship.

Re: Stock Rancho Shock Replacement

For a complete kit, contact Greg.

For just Bilsteins, shox.com is the best deal out there.

True, 1965.... BUT Greg sells the mounted Bilsteins, so you don't have to mess around with the spring compressor and stuff... Just buy them, with a core charge, unbolt... rebolt... send Greg your old ones... get refund.

I was not aware of this.

There is wisdom behind that mustache!

The clunking sound is from your Upper A-Arm hitting the top of your coil bucket. You should have purchased the 2" leveling kit.

But on a serious note, the Bilsteins recommended above are the way to go.

Re: Stock Rancho Shock Replacement

its not the sound of the upper a arms hitting because ive heard that before hitting big stuff, its mostly on small stuff that wouldnt make the suspension move enough to make it hit the coil bucket

Regardless, the stock shocks are POS's and that is likely the problem. From the factory, without any modifications, the shock itself is the limiting factor for suspension travel in the downward/extended position. It doesn't take long to ruin a shock when it is 'topping' out like that.

Go with the Bilstein's as recommended up above, you won't be sorry. They are the least expensive, long term solution to your problems. They'll probably last longer than the truck!
