In the next couple months I'm planning on upgrading the suspension to go with my new tires/wheels. I was looking at the "Extended Travel package" that Greg offers. Does anyone have any input on it? What should I expect for my $3k? If I wanted to go deeper into it and go for a MT kit, would it be an easy upgrade later? or would too many parts of the Extended Travel kit be replaced? Trying to be somewhat cost effective here. Try not to laugh, but my inspirations gotta be the late 80's RC Tyco Bandits...
Goals:
- Lift enough to fit my disco 20s & 35s --Updated:: Going with 37s
- Still be able to tow
- Be able to launch the truck a few times and overall just articulate better for some high speed desert runs.
Lots of folks here use that exact setup and love it. I have the version for 4WD (no spindles) and it's great. Whether or not you should upgrade to "MT" depends on your intended use. If you spend most of your time on the street, but do some light to moderate off-roading/lauching then my guess is your fine with the Extended Travel setup. If you're more hardcore off-road go "MT".
The MT setup varies in cost. You could get the basic setup and use your extended travel shocks (using your OEM coilbuckets) for under 2 grand (I think). But most guys buy the longer shocks, shock hoops, engine cage, air-bumps, plus whatever I'm forgetting. You'll also need glass fenders. This all adds up. I'm thinking 5 to 6 grand? It really depends on how much "upgrading" you want to do. Oh, and then there's the Trutrac, gears from Hoopers, etc. Anyway, it might be overkill for you...

Is the MT kit ok even if your rig is your daily driver?(of course i have an alternate transportation if the titan got ****ed up in the desert)

And so on, and so on...I just never ends!
All that for 20's?...

HAHA thats funny! I still have one of those Bandits packed away at my parents house. I smashed the front bumper and had to glue it a few times. I loved that thing.

Yes, the MT kit is fine on a daily driver. Greg (PRG) has had a super-duper version of his MT kit on his daily driver/work/experimental Titan for quite some time. I believe most of the guys on this forum who run the MT setup use their trucks as daily drivers with no problems.
I think it's plenty for what you want, but I've never launched my titan so don't know what all it needs for launching. I think it depends on what kind of air you plan on catching really... 2' high all 4 tires or 6' high or what have you... my rear is gonna consist of alot of what you have except SAW 2.25" Piggyback rears and no block just deaver... and I think it'll handle jumps pretty well... just gotta saw the front SAS would probably be ideal but it'd be more worth while to start with a better platform that already has solid axle...

I ordered my set-up last week. SAW's front and rear, prg upper arms, and a 1" rear block. Can't wait til it get's here. My wheels came in yesterday and I want to put them on so bad but want to wait until the suspension comes in.

I'm running SAW's with total chaos upper arms, stock spindles, and the piggyback saw rears and love it. I took it out on the last Barstow trip and it took every hit perfectly.
Is the extended travel going to give me a decent squatty look or do I need to go a different route? I don't want this thing sky high. Greg's & Kevdizzle's rides finally put me over the top to get the 37s.

Advice?
I might have missed something. When you say O/R: XE 17s do mean you're putting the 37s on the stock XE wheels? Are those wide enough? I saw that you'd be using the ProComp 20s on the street.

Don't know about Kdizzle's Titan, but I'm pretty sure Greg's has lower gearing since he has a non-Titan rear axle.
Toyo M/Ts in the 17s and 20s are true 37s, so will raise your overall gearing. Hopefully you at least have the BT gears or can get the custom work like BEECHLY did. The Toyo M/Ts are pigs. Even my 33.5s are 73 pounds, but the 37s are 93 lbs. in the 17", and 94 lbs. in the 20".
Even though hooligan probably thought I was giving him sh!t, last night, about tall tires, especially for a Titan without BT/OR gearing, at least he chose short 37s ... 36s, and they weigh about 25 lbs. a piece less than the Toyo M/T!
So my advice is get 34s, but if you've got to have 37s, at least get the BFG AT KOs.
