Installing the 4inch PRG Perf lift tomorrow

Wish me luck. I got BB's excellent directions and will be attempting the install in my driveway tomorrow. Anyone got any tips? I'm going with Saw's all the way around

PRG's instructions are good, BB's writeup is great. It will go smooth.

You're going to love the SAW's!

I can't wait until my set-up gets here so I can put everything on. I went with SAW's all around too. Wheels are already here waiting for the lift to be put on.

I hope it goes well for you and you don't have any stubborn bolts to contend with!

Re: Installing the 4inch PRG Perf lift tomorrow

It's a pretty easy set up to do. A friend and I put mine on in his driveway in about 7 hours. That is w/ lunch and beer breaks tho. Air tools help out a lot too if you have them.

Re: Installing the 4inch PRG Perf lift tomorrow

Took me 7 hours to do one side today. I feel defeated. I did get the one side done.

I followed the directions but must of made a mistake along the way. I took all the upper shock bolts off to include the main center one that holds the nut on the shock. I took the lower shock bolt out and it pinched the bolt and I had a heck of a time getting it out After a few hours I finally got it out. Should I take the lower bolt out first so this doesn't happen again?

The sway bar was a beast to put back on. I had to completely remove one side of it to fix my mistake. Do both sway bar end links have to come off to install this? I would prefer to not have to deal with it again. Should I have another malfunction with the shock. I PM'd BB and hope he can shed some light on it.

I called Greg and he said I should not have removed the main bolt in the top of the shock till last after the bottom mount was out.

I still feel defeated but At least I got one side done.

Re: Installing the 4inch PRG Perf lift tomorrow

Sorry it was a rough install.

As you already found out, the three outer bolts are removed on the top shock mount, not the middle one.

The sway bar is easier to work with if you disconnect it on both sides of the truck at the end of the sway links. Just a nut on each side - then you can swing the bar out of the way as needed.

For the coilover - whether you remove the 3 upper bolts first or the single lower bolt first it should work either way. As long as you have a jack stand under the frame to free up your floor jack (and for safety!) and use your floor jack to support then drop the lower control arm just enough you should have enough room to drop the coilover then pull it out. You need to use your floor jack to support the weight of the assembly - when you find the sweet spot the lower bolt should literally slide out.

I bet after doing the one side already the other will go better for you. Good luck!

Re: Installing the 4inch PRG Perf lift tomorrow

Remember, remove the sway bar link bolts BEFORE you jack the truck up, or yes, it will be VERY difficult to get them out or back in... When you are putting them back in, remember to put the truck on the ground first, too....

Don't feel defeated, it will all be worth it in the end. And you will have the satisfaction of knowing you put it on yourself.

Re: Installing the 4inch PRG Perf lift tomorrow

I got it done but I wouldn't say that it will absorb speed bumps. When I hit speed bumps I get a thud. I have rechecked everything and I'm not making contact anywhere. Maybe my expectations aren't what reality is. Eben at 5mph it doesn't take speed bumps too well. I even took the sway bar off and I still get the thud. It does great over little stuff. I don't know. I called Greg and talked with I'm but we will see how it goes. What is everyone's experience with the Saw's and speed bumps. I have the PRG UCA's and have the preload set at 2 inches. ??????
