Need advice- to lift or not to lift

I work away from home a week or two at a time putting an average of 500 highway miles per week on my '04 KC 4x4 (40k right now). I have been debating a 6" lift and new wheels and tires. I occasionally have to travel down rough dirt / muddy roads and its my hunting truck so i would like more clearance and I like the lifted look. I also want to be able to put bigger tires on, I won't go insanely big because of gas mileage. Anyway, I have the extended warranty, and ofcourse the dealer is giving me the "if you lift it, most shops don't know how to do it right and you could blow your rear end due to bad angle on the drive shaft, and you will loose your warranty on any suspension related things and drive line blah blah" I know they would have to prove the lift caused the failure but I really dont want to have to fight every time I take my truck in. Seems to me that the lift would beef up some components (my shocks need to be replaced anyway). I need my truck to be as reliable as possible. I can't afford for my truck to brake something out in the boonies, but are there really any reliability issues with a good lift installed at a good shop?

Re: Need advice- to lift or not to lift

Most lifts come dummy proof anyway if their from a reputable company. So if you put on all the provided parts it will be fine. It really has nothing to do with the shop unless its a lift custom made by them. It has more to do with the company you buy the lift from and how its engineered. Most lifts are pretty reliable and you wont have to worry about the lift as far as reliability. What you have to worry about is the extra stress on the drive line from bigger tires. If you are on the road most of the time this is nothing to worry about. If you use it offroad a lot then thats when it becomes a factor.

So yes the bigger tires do put strain on you already pos diff. No you wont find yourself broken down every other trip. Oh yea and say goodbye to your mpg's.

Re: Need advice- to lift or not to lift

I have a pro comp 6" lift and I love it. Now that said, I don't drive my truck to and from work everyday. Fortunatley for me I have a company truck for that. I will tell you, that with gas prices through the roof I am glad that I don't drive it alot. I love my truck and I love my lift, but be prepared for 10 to 12 mpg. I have no regrets with my lift and 35's. I my opinion is the Titan looks soooo much better with a lift.

Re: Need advice- to lift or not to lift

you also may want to consider the 4" perf package from PRG....a little more lift, but not as much as a 6" lift and you could run some more 'highway friendly' shoes.
