RAS and Rear leaf spring questions

I just had a Roadmaster Active Suspension system installed on the rear leaf springs. To complete the installation, the rubber roller on top of the stock rear leaf spring bracket must be removed in order for the RAS to function properly. How is that roller taken out? Also, are there any negatives about doing this?

Re: RAS and Rear leaf spring questions

I've never even heard of the RAS... I've never seen it posted here. most guys tend to run with the PRG supplied stuff for various reasons. mostly from what it sounds like it's prerunner/race inspired stuff so it takes mild-modest abuse I think...

Different application... mostly for towing/hauling heavy loads. Not something Greg would sell. A old friend of mine has this on his late model Chevy... swears by it.

Graybeard... wish I could answer your question. Sorry. I'm sure someone who knows will chime in.

Re: RAS and Rear leaf spring questions

wow, sounds cool, like an extra overload leaf that only starts its job when so much give is had on the leafs, at least that's how it kinda sounds besides the axle wrap and stuff getting lessened which I'd imagine would need as little lead time give as possible...

Re: RAS and Rear leaf spring questions

I've got a RAS I need to install but I don't remember any instructions about removing any rubber rollers. Is that documented or something the installer figured out on their own?

I was planning on doing it myself, but if there's removal of parts, I may leave it to the pros.

I read about removing the rollers somewhere in these forums. The installation instructions that come with the RAS kit don't mention it; and the Roadmaster website doesn't refer to it, either. I told my installer about it, but he had also noticed the need to remove the rollers himself. The're held in place by a threaded bolt that runs through them. A couple of turns of an allen wrench, and they're out. The rollers DEFINITELY need to be removed, to make room for RAS kit to function properly. You can save the rollers and the bolts in case the RAS kit is ever removed from the truck. The rollers will need to be reinstalled if it is. Also, my installer had to replace the 4 u-bolts that hold the leaf springs to the axle. After the RAS kit was installed, there wasn't enough thread left at the ends of the stock bolts to get the locking nuts back on, so we had to get new bolts.
