Any1 thought of Airbags

I'm just curious as to I have friends that airbag trucks and watnot. Well we were talking and instead of replacing the coilover with a new one that can be torqued to increase height. Then why can't we take air shocks or air bag that bolts up just the same as the coilover to give it a 4-6 inch lift on the front with the use of air? And does anyone know how if I did that could I go 6 inches on my coilovers without any conplications? Thanks

Re: Any1 thought of Airbags

I don't think it would be skinney enough to clear an aftermarket upper control arm. stock uca just straight out won't get that much lift your lift will max out at maybe 3.8" 4wd and the limiter would be the upper a-arm landing on the coil bucket and the suspension would then be completely maxed for height if not with an aftermarket upper 5" would be absolute max I'd imagine with the same limiter, a-arm completely resting on coil bucket so there is no further possible suspension travel to allow anymore lift or droop... if you jack your truck up and the tire falls til the a-arm hits the coil bucket you'd understand but you'd probably 1st need some type of lift like a 2.5" leveling spacer, my truck does that, but I have the 2.5" leveling spacer so I'm not sure if stock trucks do it. I don't remember jacking my truck up when it was completely stock that was like a few years back

Re: Any1 thought of Airbags

Thanks I am kinda new to this titan game as ive only owned a chevrolet z71 before and my titan is not 4wd so noo worries on driveshaft and etc., but let me get this straight ive seen the airbag struts and they are no bigger around than stock coilovers so if I put a 2.5 inch spacer on top of the strut I could then go 5 with the strut and then the spacer would allow the uca not to hit the bucket until I saved up enough to buy a new set of uca's. If anyone has any I mean ANY knowledge they would like to share with me about this please p.m. me or post bc I am lost with this titan suspension and geometry thanks.

Re: Any1 thought of Airbags

you can't lift that high without it hitting the coil bucket even w/aftermarket arms I don't think, you'd be really close. at least it wouldn't be very drivable... PRG has a spindle lift which is pretty inexpensive and it lifts the front 4", so the airbag could take it to 6.5" I guess at least 6" since you can add a little on top of the spindle lift, not sure if it can go more than 6" though so you may need a 2" bag... you'd need to get more lift in the rear unless you want the front sitting higher than the back by like 4" or so... why bags? if you set it and change it alot your wheels will probably wear really fast at the edges and that'd cost more than it's worth to be adjusting the height all the time imo

Re: Any1 thought of Airbags

Well im considering bags because they are so cheap, i mean for $350 i can call the place tell them how big compressed and extended and they make the strut ready to bolt on. I mean its alot cheaper than 500 for coilovers. I'm in college and just trying to save money but I'm thinking i might just have to eat that part and just save forever until i lift it. lol. but the air struts are cheaper and once I put everything on there that i wanted they would be more flexible as i could adjust the height and leave it with a taller lift. Because I was gonna put the air struts, a coilover spacer, then buy a set of total chaos control arms, and then a set of spindles and lift it in that sequence to try to let everything balance out and not hit too much anywhere. hows that sound? and oh yea the back is simple i'll do it as i go.

Re: Any1 thought of Airbags

If your keeping the coil bucket, to run airbags vs. conventional coilsprings, you will still be limited by the chassis. Here's a solution, cut off the coilbucket and use the torsion bars from your z71, adjustable and no more coilbucket to contend with. I'm just kidding here, you just cant get 6" of lift with the methods you are thinking of. You need to crawl under the truck and look around for a bit and you will see that the Titan is on of the most difficult trucks to extract lift/travel from.
