I just got some DRs w/ spacers (thanks Bobby), and was wondering what the best setting would be to run them. I have a 04' 4x4 BT and do mostly steet driving mixed with sand and some off road (nothing too crazy). I also purchased Greg's UCAs for the bucket clearance. What should the setting be (inches of threads) showing on the Coil overs with the 5/8" spacer installed. I wanna get as high as possible without compensating ride comfort.
Also per Black Beauty's write up. Can I leave off the set screws after using the spanner wrench? They won't be able to spin with the load on it right? I'm thinking I would also use the leveling kit's bolts to attach the DRs to the coil bucke right?

Aloha Derrick, the spacer slips between the top of the shock mount and the coil bucket. install the coilover and loosen the set screw on the ring and adjust it till around 1 1/4" of threads show above the ring.(with the truck jacked up) set the truck down and take a test ride, if you want you should be able to go a hair more. The PRG site says just under 3" of lift on a 4X4 and with the spacer you should be around 4" of lift. (did I forget to ship the wrench?) and here's a big SHAKA!

Did you get your rig back? If so, how's she riding. Thanks for the info. on tuning the coilovers to my liking. I'm thinking the wrench is already on the coilover. Or is there supposed to be a separate wrench to adjust things. If there is a separate one, yeah, I didn't get it. I'm just a wave donkey when it comes to these coilovers. The DRs are nice, just waiting for the time to slap them on.

I'm jealous... I want to get some fronts, didn't know the DRs would go that high, it'll probably ride similar to a SAW cranked like that I'd imagine? I was planning on getting extended travel SAWs to compliment the rear piggybacks but to get 4" they're gonna be hella stiff I think... will these do better offroad than super stiff *remember I'll set them to around 4" lift* SAWS? may have to look into getting me some of these instead. thanks!

I just got some DRs w/ spacers (thanks Bobby), and was wondering what the best setting would be to run them.
The factory pre-load is 0.75" (thread showing between adjuster nut and top cap). In designing the shock, the can and shaft lengths are determined to maximize available travel. Then we set the pre-load to level the truck, and tune the shock to that pre-load. You can increase the lift by adding pre-load, but it will make for a harsher ride, and will eat into your droop (down-travel). Our engineer suggests maintaining at least 2" of droop or you'll be constantly topping out the shock.
It's a matter of personal preference. I have my Titan set with about two additional turns to try and keep it level since the rear mods I did left it an inch or two over stock.
Thanks for the reply Jon. I have some 1" spacers in the back, so I'm guessing the way you have it would suffice? So with the extra two turns, am I looking at about 1 1/4" of thread showing? I don't run the truck very hard, just some added beef is what I was looking for.
Thanks for getting back to me Jon. So it's okay to run the factory setting of 0.75" plus and extra four turns (0.5" additional). This would make 1.25" of thread showing. Am I correct? So the factory setting of 0.75" will give you the 2" of droop. If not, what is the most thread measurment I could go, and still have the 2" droop.
There isn't enough consistency from one truck to the next in order to say with certainty what your droop would be after adding 4 turns. The best thing to do is measure from the fender to a fixed point on the tire while it's sitting on the ground, jack up the truck and measure again. The difference between the two is droop. Add the 4 turns, drive around the block to settle it in, then measure again; first on the ground, then in the air.
Keep in mind that the relationship between pre-load on the shock and lift at the wheel is not a direct 1:1 ratio because of where the shock is located on the lower arm. Again...that will depend on the weight of the truck and condition of the springs, but you might expect 1" of additional pre-load to gain anywhere from 2.5" to 3" at the wheel. You'll see this in the difference between the first measurement on the ground, and the second measurement on the ground after adding pre-load.
