Lift questions v. new owner..

I'm buying an 05 XE on Friday.. I want to get it lifted, and I'm thinking moto metal 951's for it..

I called one place and they suggested a coil block or spacer whatever.. And a 6 inch would run about $2,500 installed. Ideas on that?

How does that compare to a regular lift?

As you can probably tell, I don't know much (ok, nothing) about this subject.

Also, if I went with the moto metal 951's, what size would I get.. 17 x ?

And what tire size would be suitable? A nice wide tire but not something that would rub...

Finally, a coil spacer seems pretty easy to install, though I could be wrong?
I wouldn't want to try it myself, but my brother in law is very good with automotive needs, so maybe he could install this.. Any ideas as to where I could buy one?

Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated!!

Re: Lift questions v. new owner..

First of all do you have a 2wd or 4wd? If you have a 2wd get some cst spindles and some sway-a-way coilovers and you will be all set for the front. If your a 4wd get a procomp or fabtech for around 1300-1600 and get some bracket lifted coilovers from sway-a-way.

Re: Lift questions v. new owner..

It's a 2wd.. Where can I find these items, and what all would I need? Also, is it possible for someone with good automotive knowledge to install these without needing any crazy tools or car lifts?

Re: Lift questions v. new owner..

Here you go, you will need these for about 4" of lift in the front:
http://www.prgproducts.com/shop/prod..._lift_spindle/

I recommend these for about 4 more inches in the front for a total of 8":
http://www.prgproducts.com/shop/prod...2_5_coilovers/

or these if you dont want to spend as much for 2.5 more inches of added with the spindles for a total of 6.5" up front
http://www.prgproducts.com/shop/prod..._leveling_kit/

Now for the back you will need this:
http://www.prgproducts.com/shop/prod..._drop_bracket/

and this:
http://www.prgproducts.com/shop/prod...t_rear_blocks/

Or if you dont like blocks you can get a deaver spring pack. Its best to call Greg owner of PRG who specializes in titan suspension and ask him what is best for what you want. You can find his number here:
http://www.prgproducts.com/contact-us/

Installation is pretty easy and straight forward. If you have the basic metric tools and a general know how of mechanics you can do it yourself.

Re: Lift questions v. new owner..

This would be my personal choice for a total of 1886.:
http://www.prgproducts.com/shop/cart/

This is a good bit cheaper then what the shop quoted you and im sure you will be alot happier with it. Oh yea one thing i forgot you will need some new rear shocks:
http://www.prgproducts.com/shop/prod...ameter_shocks/

Now you have a total of 2,285 still cheaper with a ride way better than you standard bracket lift.

Re: Lift questions v. new owner..

thanks for the tips, I'm going to ask my brother in law about diy...

I just called the shop and got a breakdown...

$4775 total for everything..

pro-comp 6 inch lift $1700--700 labor --- $2603 with tax

wheel install kit $60

moto metal 951 $170 each

nitto terra grappler $299 each
325--70--17

So, I'm thinking if I go that route, I'd be getting out cheaper by just having them do the lift, and me buying the wheels and tires myself and having someone put them on.. Also, what other tires would be good for this setup? Any cheaper tires?

Finally, this 6 inch pro-comp, is this the same thing as a coil spacer or whatever they said before??

Re: Lift questions v. new owner..

Are these the moto metals that I need?

ebay item # 260238813331

Also, I called a local tire place and:

cooper atr discover $158

yoko geolander hts $161

bf goodrich longtrail $173

all 325-70-17's.. That price is for installation on new wheels and install on truck..

So, will the wheels on the ebay auction work, and after the lift, will they need any type of spacers or anything?

I think I might just have the shop install the lift and leave the stock wheels and tires on, then get the tires and wheels done at the tire place..

Re: Lift questions v. new owner..

I did a 7" cst lift (4x4) - 2.5 SAW Coilovers - PRG UCAs - Radflo 2.0 Rears - 2.5" Deaver spring pack in the rear - $4300 installed. What all are you getting with this pro comp lift? With rims and tires I paid $1100 more and the quality of the lift and accessories (shocks, etc) were better. You should talk with greg!

Re: Lift questions v. new owner..

PRG is the man! He can get you all really great quality stuff. If you have a 2wd why waste the money on the PC lift when you could just get the spindle lift and better shocks?

Nick did you get my email?

I agree^^^^. If you aren't going more than 6" then don't get the bracket lifts go with the spindle lift. And save youself some money and do the install youself. If you can follow instructions it really easy.. There is also many threads on lifts here all you will need to do is search and read.

Re: Lift questions v. new owner..

Yea if you have a two wheel drive you would be really dumb to put on a procomp lift. get the stuff i linked to for less money, better quality, and a way better ride. Plus you can get more lift out of it if you went with the procomp you get 6" and thats about it.

Re: Lift questions v. new owner..

Like everyone else said, DO NOT install the ProComp kit on your 2WD truck. That would be dumb. This would be the best option:
http://www.prgproducts.com/shop/prod..._spindle_lift/

That, plus your wheels and tires costs about $4400. It's more than what the other guys quoted you. But it's the best, and it's only money, right? Is the going rate for an install $700? That seems high. Anyhow, if you're near Riverside, CA you should have Greg do it. He probably knows more about Titan suspensions than anyone else, and he definitely won't hack your truck like a lot of those wheel/suspension/quckie-lube shops!
