i watched this video that "stuntdriver06" posted a link to in a different thread and much of what I see is normal suspension travel...there is some wrap but nothing I see as abnormal. Whats your take on this?
p.s. Thanks stuntdriver06 for posting link in a previous thread.
well, looks like his driveshaft is doing just fine and functioning the way it's supposed to be... from what I see, looks like the rear is squatting like it should every time the throttle get's mashed...

well, from my own experience of Titan axle wrap, i managed to have 2 torn tranny/transfer mounts in less than 12k each... I started noticing each incident when I got on it from a stop, I could hear gear rginding sounds from underneath and feel lack of traction... when I put the pedal to the floor from 0, there would be a huge metallic slam, like something slid from the front of the bed to the rear... this is just one of the mechanical faults caused by axle wrap... my fix to the problem was a set of PRG traction bars...

Wait a second.......so axle wrap would cause the tranny mounts to fail? and you fix that with the traction bars?
YUP! the great engineering that went into the development of our tranny mounts obviously sucked... the mount is basically a rubber circular tube, has a solid core, with raised lips that go wider and upwards... I think it's designed to "cushion" the ride, but does nothing to maintain forward/rear movement, so the outter edges rip and keep tearing until the thin outter edges rip completely from the solid core...

OK thats next on m y list, the traction bars. Ive already went thru 2 tranny mounts and I got one broken right now.

WoW!!! 2 mounts in 12k, not good. I'll have to keep an eye/ear on that. What year is your titan? Have you heard of others going threw mounts?
What does a set of PRG traction bars go for? Do they affect anything in a negative way?
As I see from last post, yea there are others!!! Doesn't say much for reliability. I would have done without a smoother ride for better designed mounts.
Is the wrap also responsible for the shackle failures?

The tranny mount issue is really a 4wd problem and only on lifted trucks. But I see it all the time on trucks that tow or guys who like to accelerate hard. As the driveshaft plunges into the transfercase, it trys to push the TC up and forward and puts a lot of load on the mount, eventually this mount fails. Even though there is a slip yoke, there is still alot of "side loading" that puts a tremendous force, for a brief moment, into the tranny mounts. If the DS were at stock angles it would be much less likely to happen. But traction bars keep the axle from rotating and let the tranny mounts live a longer, happier life.
don't know if it is a factor with shackle failure... IMO, the OEM shackles just aren't made too well, bad welds that allow it to peel open...
Its obvious why their failing, the side walls of factory mount don't continue all the way along the side of shackle. Aftermarket ones do. Its no wonder their failing. Are they braking only from overloading or are their other things that cause them to fail? Was that yours that broke and what caused it to?
