Solid Axle??

I have been contenplaiting what I want to do with the Titan. I was thinking on trading it in for a 09 Pro-4x but mine is paid off and they wanted 21k on top of my titan. So I have decided to keep it. I visited an Off Road performance shop today and they said they could make my 2WD Titan a 4WD with a Solid Axle, change the gearing, and lift it however high I want it for 5800 out the door. I would have to drop it off for three weeks. Just wanted a little advice and if it is even worth it

Re: Solid Axle??

That sounds way on the low side... What axle are they going to use? What transfer case are they getting? Are they going to be able to keep the tone rings on the front so the ABS doesn't go crazy?

Re: Solid Axle??

the axle is a dana44, the transfer case is a MP203 and he said he was going to eliminated ABS the correct way whatever that means? Does that sound right?

I'd like to see him mate an NP203 to the Titan trans. Custom mounting plate perhaps? Eliminating the ABS, there is no right way to do this as of yet. It's not as simple as splising the wires to the rear tone rings. The Titan BCM has pre set voltage drops calculated into the reads from all the sensors. When they are off, even a little bit, everything goes haywire. You will have a christmas tree in your dash and will not be able to go any faster than 30mph without the truck shutting off on you.

Depending on what tire you are planning on running, a D44 might be ok. Just don't push it too hard.

That would be an alright setup depending on what size tires you're planning on running and what you're going to do with it. I'd say a D44 and an Np(not MP)203 are good unless you plan on going crazy big. What do you plan on doing with the truck, just keeping it on the street or going out and beating on it pretty hard all the time?

Re: Solid Axle??

I plan on keeping it street an occasional off road meet, it is my only vehicle right now, he wants to go big w/ 37's, I told him the highest I want to go is 9" on 35's..thats what I mentioned to him, if he can accomplish this without making my dashboard a christmas tree I think I will do it...He just finished 3 late model tacomas swaping out EFS for a solid axle and the owners seemed pleased

Re: Solid Axle??

I say do it, but I would go with a D60. Just to play it safe. Let them know if they can duplicate it in a "kit" form, there are more buyers out there. But it must retain the OEM tone rings.

If you do that, you are going to want gears for the rear (which nobody makes) so might as well get D60s front & rear and throw in a couple of lockers.

Re: Solid Axle??

You don't need a D60 for 37"s. A D44 will hold up just fine, especially if you're not going to be taking it out beating on it every day. Not to mention you can buy (5) D44s for the price of (1) D60. I'd do it if the guy guarantee's you won't have any dash lights or anything, that seems like a pretty fair price if he's using quality stuff. Also, I would make sure he was going through the front axle for that price and putting new bearing's, seals and brakes on it. And while the truck is in the shop you could probably send the rear diff off to Hooper's to get gears put in, then just have the guy doing the install put the gears in the front axle.

Re: Solid Axle??

Dynatrac makes a D60 with a little more ground clearance.
