Guys,
I have searched but couldn't really find the particular information I was looking for. So I am very sorry to start yet another thread about shocks.
I have a 2005 XE 2WD KC 21k miles. It has the original shocks and 22" wheels with Kumho tires. I am going down to an 18" with grapplers but my questions are about shocks:
I hate the shocks and they are too stiff and hard and rough and completely unrefined. I want a more comfortable shock that would be a pleasure driving. I know I bought a truck but I want to know which shocks I should go with that will make a much more comfortable ride. I am wanting it to behave more like a comfortable SUV like a Chevy Suburban. Any idea which shocks will achieve this?
A friend suggested that I should go with Sensatrac shocks. Please advise as I need to trash these original shocks asap. This is going to become my everyday driver soon and I don't want a slipped disk in my back. It is tooooooo stiff.
I don't go off-road and 100% driving will be on paved roads both city and highway. I will not be lifting, etc. Again, I want a softer shock with a very refined ride without feeling all the bumps on the road but don't want an overly bouncy shock.
I have Bilstein.........the front is very good, but the rear seems a
little stiff for highway driving. I think I would have preferred
Monroe Sensatrac on the rear.

I would suggest the Bilstein HD shocks, they are super smooth, just like it sounds like you're wanting. You can also get them from Shock Warehouse and pay a local shop to compress the front coilovers to change them out.
They are listed under
Complete Set Front and Rear
Bilstein BST HEAVY DUTY
I know you asked about shocks, and I support your decision to get rid of the factory shocks, however, changing from 22 to 18 inch rims is going to make a very big difference in ride comfort, as you will have a lot more sidewall to flex on your tires.
If you have not already bought them, the Nitto tires are going to be a stiffer sidewall than, say, a Bridgestone (really, this depends on the load rating of the tire) so you might reconsider that choice at the same time.
