View Poll Results: What brand of motor oil do you use in you Titan?
Why wasn't Chevron Supreme 5w-30 offered as a poll option? It had good test results (among the best dino oils) and I think more Titan Talk folks use it than some of the other choices in the poll.

Sorry about that, even left off Vavoline couldn't find a way to edit the poll, can you do it for me. BTW where are you buying the Chevron oil at ? Oh and the dino is not fairing well on the poll vs the syn!
Thanks for fixing it!

I added Valvoline and Chevron to the poll. Even though there are dozens of Chevron gas stations in my area, most of them only have 3 or 4 quarts or none of the 5w-30 at all. I buy mine by the case at the local Chevron bulk distributor.
I decided to use dino oil because I want to change my oil at slightly below 3000 mi. intervals. With Mobil 1 selling at over $4.00 a quart, I couldn't realistically see myself spending that much money. Also, Nissan recommends the use of dino oils for the Titan in the service manual.
What weight or type Royal Purple do you use. Where I work we use tons of Royal Purple and I know the dealer very well and can get a little discount from him. I was thinking of going to RP but wasn't sure anyone here was using it.

i use 10w30 since i live in beaumont, tx and it never gets very cold here only about 20 is the lowest so 10w30 is good for here , 5w30 is just as good, i use 75w90 in the diff. Both have been working great.

Someone correct me if I'm mistaken but I believe those companies, BMW, MB, Porsche etc, do bench break-ins which is why they come from the factory filled with Mobil1.
I was in engine training last year at AIDT (Alabama Industrial Development) and the instructor handed out a pamphlet he printed off of a web site that was in-depth testing results of several leading motor oils. I can't remember much about the article, because it was over a year ago, but the bottom line was that Mobile 1 brand oils was rated the best. It went so far as saying that engines that used Mobile 1 showed minimal engine wear even after 100K miles! So, to make a long story short, I've been using this stuff ever since.
So, on my truck, once it passes 1K miles, I'll add Mobil 1 synthetic and probably change it ever 7,500 miles. All Hondas come from the factory with Synthetic and they suggest that change interval, so if it's good enough for a Honda, then I'm game!

Thanks, Living here in South Ark weather isn't much different so should be fine. Not that familiar with RP in autos but know our equipment lasts much longer when we went to RP it's pretty well made suff,

I have always used and liked Castrol Syntec in my other vehicles but it looks like mobil 1 is the choice of most Titan owners. Tell us why!!!!
Castrol Syntec is not a true synthetic, that's why. Not to say that it doesn't perform well, because it does. But the base stock is a Group III conventional oil, aka "severely hydrocracked" base stock. This is a new form of conventional oil that is much higher performing than older solvent-dewaxed base stocks. It most definitely does approach true synthetic performance.
The problem is with the marketing and price point. Even though Castrol has switched from Group IV PAO basestock (true synth) to Group III, the price point and marketing claims remain the same. Group III basestocks only cost about $0.80 more per gallon than does Group II basetocks, which is what most conventional oils use nowadays. Yet Castrol still charges $4.50 a quart for Syntec. That's just not right. Mobil 1 uses Group IVPAO basestocks. I'm sure more than just a few people are aware of this difference, and choose to get their money's worth.
Again, this is not to say Syntec is not a good performing oil. It is. But I object to them switching to a cheaper basestock and pocketing the difference. I'm sure the shareholders love it. I think Syntec would be a good value at $2.50-$3 a quart, but not at $4.50-$5 a quart.
The only exception to this is some bottles of the 0w-30 Syntec. If you find a bottle of this weight that says "Made in Germany" on it, this is imported Castrol SLX from Germany. It's a true PAO and a outstanding performer. It's also a VERY THICK 30wt oil at 12.0 cSt @100C, which makes me think it would work very well in the Titan's engine.

It took graduation from the "School Of Hard Knocks" (Marine Corps), with an associates in "Combat Vet" from Fallujia University to open the door to my dream job.

I used Chevron Supreme 10w30 with great success in my old truck. Whereas Mobil 1 5w-30 gave me 10ppm iron and 4ppm lead, the Chevron Supreme 10w-30 gave me 4ppm iron and ZERO ppm lead.
So, when I dumped my factory fill oil Friday I put Chevron Supreme 10w-30 in there along with a Wix 51036 filter. I think the 5w-30 might have been a better idea as I seem to get more valvetrain noise now than before when it's cold. Oil pressure is identical to the factory fill/nissan filter combo.
Once it's warmed up though, it purrs like a kitten. The 10w-30 may be a better summertime oil.

Just checked the number of views on the poll, we have 576 views but only 76 that have posted their oil preference just wondering why most people are not voting as motor oil is one of the hot topics of the forum. Has been interesting that most people are using syn. No recounts as dimpled chads don't apply here (thank goodness).
Thanks Ray
