The German Castrol is available at Autozone around here and it says "MADE IN GERMANY" on the back of the bottle.
Had to go to Autozone tonight to purchase gear oil, so I checked the bottles of Castrol, all with the Wayne Jersey address on Syntec and the Dino,
With the phrase "no to be used outside the Americas." Strange that one state
over has Castol made in Germany according to Abmobil. I"m sure a supplier like Autozone buys oil in bulk quantites like Walmart so how come we have two different oils a state apart. Anybody got the answer on this one?

Only the 0w-30 weight is "MADE IN GERMANY". It's a full PAO as opposed to the Group III North America product. It's A3 rated for Euro standards so I guess they just choose to import the GC to do it rather than to try to blend the North American Group III to meet those spects. Probably not cost effective to make a 30 wt Group III oil meet A3, so they just import the GC. In Europe and other parts of the world this exact same oil is sold as Castrol Forumula SLX.
This oil at 100C is almost a 40 weight (12.0 cSt), yet the pour point is -71 F!!! It's some kind of oil, if you can find it.

TRADED IN 9/1/06 for something more fuel efficient. My gf misses the White Titan....lol.
According to tests I have read Mobil 1 will cause less wear and allow the engine to work better. I know for a fact that it allowed my 1999 SS Camaro to pass smog with several bad rings and bent valves twice. My favorite engine rebuilder client in Modesto once told me, when I asked him about oil, that when it came to conventional oils brands didn't matter as long as you stuck to the same brand for the life of the engine and as far as he knew synthetics did extend the life of the engine. But he rebuilt mostly domestic engines and most of his clients didn't used synthetics so he hadn't seen hundreds of them yet. We had Mobil 1 in our Goldwing GL1500 for 13 years and the compression was the same as the day as we bought it and it ran as strong as the day we bought it even with all the miles we put on it over the years. We have used Mobil 1 in all our cars and have it in our Titan. Confirmed Synthetic believers.

Agreed Mobil 1 is good oil. However there are good alternatives as well. Not all vehcles need expensive synthetic.
Consider my old truck, a 2000 F150 Supercab with 4.2 V6 and 5 speed. I performed oil analysis to see how it was doing.
On Mobil 1 5w30 in 4650 miles, I got 10 ppm iron and 4 ppm lead.
On Chevron Supreme 10w30 in 4980 miles, I got 4 ppm iron and 0 ppm lead. It also had less oxidation and nitration during the sample periods. I paid $1.07 per quart for that Chevron Supreme.
Both were summertime intervals in the 95+ Texas heat.
The Mobil 1 result is pretty good. I was happy with it. The Chevron result was outstanding and as a result I quit using Mobil 1. YMMV.

I change oil and oil filter every 3000 miles in all my cars and trucks (previous and current) so I buy whatever that's on sale, usually, Penzoil, Quaker State, 5W-30. Never even consider synthetic because I just want new oil in the engine every 3k miles and synthetic would be too expensive or you leave it in too long (7500 miles or up to 12k miles) for my preference - no scientific data, just personal preference.
I'm only loyal to my wallet, not to any oil company or brand. Never had any issues with any oil brand that I have used on any of my cars or trucks.
Anybody ever use any Shell oil products, since Shell owns Quaker State and Pennzoil now, I just bought the Shell branded oil. I know they are they truckers favorite with the Rotella T and that it outsells any other diesel oil.

I'm curious about the new blend of Pennzoil synthetic branded as Pennzoil Platinum. Wouldn't mind seeing some test numbers on that. I think I'm going to start buying my own oil and having the dealer change it....just so there's a record of it.

I have some formula shell I bought on sale at Pep Boys. It's GF-3, SL 5w-30. Not sure if I will use it in the Titan or not. If I do, it will certainly be fortified with extra additives (probably about 1oz/qt of Valvoline SynPower, which is full of moly, boron and ZDDP).

Over at Club Titan Jettech is going to test the Rotella 5-40 synthetic on his next oil change that may give you some insight on his oil analysis. But the Shell I have been using is the 5-30 SL, have been buying at Advance auto parts. Brons2 , now that Shell owns Q.S. and Pennzoil do you think it's all the same oil, additive package in the end or do you think they use differnt formulas for each brand?

On the SL version, the Formula Shell add pack seemed a little weaker according to the analysis I saw at BITOG. Could be lab error though. I suspect at some point it will all be the same oil as SOPUS seems to market all Pennzoil, QS and Shell. Check the bos-it probably says SOPUS Produts, Houston Texas on it.

Do you ever do any oil analysis? I'd be interested to see how well the Royal Purple performed, as I've never seen a Royal Purple analysis on a Titan.
