I think Brons2 posted a cut open filter and it looked good from what I saw. But my local dealer has priced their self out the OEM filter for me, can buy the Pure One for $5.99 at Advance Auto Parts, about three weeks ago the OEM cost me like $7.15 tax included but my dealership is a good 10 miles out of the way also.
I just bought a few filters (Air, Cabin, and Oil) from this site. Great, quick service and prices beat my local dealer's by 26%
Just a note for anyone that bought any one of the Security Plus plans, using any other oil filter other than the Nissan filter may effect warranty coverage of the engine should there be damange that can be be attributed to oil filtration problems.
While I agree that an oil filter is not rocket science and there are certainly better filters out there, it would not we worth loosing out on benefits from your Security Plus plan.
I say this because of a big ordeal I went through in having the transmission replaced on my wifes 96 Nissan pickup. It never shifted smoothly after the replacement and got worse over time. After 14 months we brought it in again and out of warranty (12 month warranty on tranny) and another $800 they diagnosed the problem as a pilot bushing problem. Nine months later, the problem resurfaced and found the problem to be with the aftermarket clutch as the centrifigal weight got jammed in the fingers and the clutch was not fully releasing. It took a lot of negotiating to have them pick up the labor on this repair and went back to a Nissan clutch to eliminate outside variables should the problem resurface again. It helped that I was in the process of buying the Titan and was leveraging the purchase based on how the service on her truck was going to be handled.
Interesting...When I took my Titan to Autoway Nissan for it's first change at 1000 miles, it came back with a NAPA #21356 oil filter. Probably a good filter, but I'da thought Nissan dealers would use Nissan filters on new trucks. Who knew...
Rick.
WTF! Yesterday, I bought my oil and filter to do the first change on the Titan. The miniature filter is the exact same filter listed for the 1.8 liter Sentra! I know alot of people give the domestics a hard time for cheap engineering, but damn, I have an engine that holds 6.5 qts of oil and a filter that holds a teacup! Who in the hell made that decision? It certainly doesn't give me confidence in the long term prospects of this engine. I had never considered an extended warranty until now.

If you have an engine that doesn't shed a lot of its' parts internally (as you have in the 5.6L) you don't need a big filter . Also, the engine is not breathing dirt like some designs with their "scouring pad" Air Breather Filters . Since it also has an oil cooler, it is not relying on the filter as a cooling element like most US designs. Don't sweat the small filter, the engineers did a great job on the engine (as the multitude of Fords and Chevs that are seen mostly in my rear view mirror can attest).

ULTRA FILTER, lifetime direct replacement washable oil filter, designed from 6061 T6 billet aluminum, this housing has a 1500 lb crush rate. The washable filter is a deep pleated, duplex woven, 35 micron surgical T304 stainless steel filter for superior washablity. A self sufficient, environmentally friendly oil filter. That not only creates more horsepower, but extends oil change intervals from 3000 to 7000 miles. With all of todays aftermarket performance parts, Consumers should not forget about the most vital part of the engine, “the oil filter”. This is the lifeline of your engine. Adding performance parts to your vehicles engine creates more pressure in the oil filter, this causing your oil filter to swell and compress, damaging oil seals and putting large stress figures on your oil pump. Average HP gains are 5-6. Also with the engine running more efficient, you should see an average of 1-2 mpg. ULTRA FILTER, filters your oil an absolute 35 micron with one pass, utilizing our “quad flow technology”. With an average install time of 5-10 minutes this kit comes complete with everything you need to do the install. All filters carry a complete lifetime warranty and are good forever. This Filter is also transferable to any vehicle by changing the main insert. This insert is free of charge from the manufacture. ULTRA FILTER is truly the last oil filter you will ever buy!
ULTRA FILTERs revolutionary design is made with T304 stainless steel media therefore allowing it to be reusable and cleanable. Unlike paper filters, the Billet aluminum exterior gives a polished appearance to your motor.
Most paper filters only filter an average of 50-75 micron particles. ULTRA FILTER will stop anything to an absolute 35 micron. Remember, white blood cells are 25 micron.
Paper filters have a “Bypass” that opens at 12 lbs of pressure. Most motors idle at 11lbs of pressure. At 12 lbs, the bypass opens and filtering stops. All of the dirt and metals are then sent back into your motor. Paper filters only filter 10-20% of their actual life.
With ULTRA FILTER, oil changes can be extended to every 7,000 miles. This will save you time, energy and, most importantly, money.
horsepower, mileage, no need to replace other oil filters, better filtering???what do you guys think? could ANY of the claims be true?
hey guys, i posted this in the performance section and no replies... what do yall think, snake oil? or worse, crap?
ryan
Beyond Snake Oil and directly to Bull Crap. Only 35 microns? Wow, that's only 5 times larger than the cheapest FRAM will stop. Horsepower gain from an oil filter? Only among the Snake Oil salesmen. You get more horsepower from a lower viscosity oil. Any pressure buildup in the oil filter is bypassed anyway (and that means the filter is plugged).
When racing, I used to use an Oberg filter which was a fine mesh screen. It was just there to keep the pieces from a blown oil pump from taking out the engine. Racing and engine longevity don't necessarily go together. An engine built for a 500 miler is built different than one for a 1/4 mile. A street engine is has even more differences. Performance is gained at the expense of engine life. Most racing engines could get by with a "basket" to catch the loose parts as the engine goes away.
The oil filter is key to engine life and a good stock engine oil filter goes a long way to keeping a street engine alive. Spend that $5.50 every oil change and be satisfied that you are doing your part in keeping that engine healthy.
thanks. their is snake oil, ie something that costs money but provides no benefit, and then there is the crap which not only does nothing but causes harm. landed on it by accident when surfing for another piece of snake oil (throttle body spacer lol) and just figured i would ask.
