View Poll Results: What is your Titan's average gas mileage?
I've had my Titan for a month w/1450 miles on him. My best tank was 16.1 MPG (that was interstate driving, just went 98 miles, wanted to top off the tank for a discounted car wash at the pump, LOL.) My worst was 12.6 MPG in mixed driving. I have been consistantly getting 13.5 MPG. Not real happy w/it but I know it is a big truck w/a BIG V8. I knew what I was getting in to. I love driving it.

Thanks for all of your time and knowledge Titan talk members. I'll still be around.
With 3500 miles on my truck I've averaged 12.01 (with 3.3 percent odo. correction) miles per gallon. high was 13.4, low was 9.6.
After Tom's post, I decided to baby it. For 128 miles I kept it at 2,000 rpm or less. About 108 of those miles were highway. Today at the fill I got 14.7 mpg. My highway trips are only about 20 miles a pop so I know I could do better on a long trip. I also used no downshifting to keep rpm's down.
Good to know I can get this mileage but there is no way I could keep this up. I guess knowing what I can do may keep me more aware, but it's tough to keep it down on take-off!!!!!!!!! It will probably make some difference on my part.
OK well I've said it before. With the way this truck shifts and accelerates for speed, IT SHOULD HAVE A MANUAL UPSHIFT OPTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If Hyundai can put it on a 20,000 dollar vehicle then nissan could do it. The way it holds gears so long and so readily downshifts is great for performance, but a manual upshift mode would greatly increase economy and still give any kind of perfomance you chose. The engine has enough guts to pull strong in higher gears!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish there was a way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I guess I just needed to vent, so sorry for the monologue
I have had my 05 TITAN for a couple of months now. I finally averaged my gas mileage over that time and came up with 17.1mpg! From what I have read here I expected much less. My last truck was 2002 Ford F150 w/ 4.6 V-8- about 1,000#'s lighter and with a smaller and much older tech (read inefficient) engine. Over 45,000 miles I averaged around 17.2mpg. Both trucks are 2wd SC and have the tow packages. My guess is that the bigger engine and heavier weight on the Titan is compensated by the much greater efficiency this great power train provides. By the way, has anyone seen the April Issue of Consumer Reports? The new F-150 is proving to be very unreliable. And to think I actually considered buying one.
Ford take note: We know your engines are from the 60's (really). It's time to stop spending your rapidly dwindling assets on inflated union wages and benefits and more on updating your drivetrains. They have a well deserved reputation for being Noisy, Inefficient, Gutless. There are many of us out here that really do care about quality and reliability.
I drive the same mixed bag as before - some freeways and some city. I don't care how "cool" the truck sounds and really just drive it the same as before. I always remember the less I touch the pedals the less it costs me in $$. Less brake jobs and warping of rotors and less gas used. Much wear and tear occurs on vehicles by how quickly we accelerate and decelerate. So what if the guy next to me gets to the next stoplight a little quicker, or passes me on the highway. I am driving a TITAN! We are the king of the road! So act like it! I drive the speedlimit nearly always, so never have to worry about cops and the resultant jacked up insurance rates or killing somebody (maybe me?) because I couldn't react quickly enough to avoid an unexpected situation.
A nd finally, I think talking about big truck gas mileage is like talking about how quick a minivan can go from 0 to 60 - or how many one handed pushups my 350 pound honey can do. That isn't really the primary issue. Some of us just like a big comfortable ride . If this is your concern then there are a growing number of skinny little uncomfortable hybrids out there just waiting for you to take a ride.

Seriously tho' , Knowing how much of a difference the pedal makes seems to be affecting my habits, maybe it will continue. Tom, some of those miles were lower than 2,000 Rpm's, 2 grand was just my limit.
Another thing I noticed, when the truck slows down the trans will sometimes downshift on its own, raise the Rpm's, and hold the truck back. Bumping it into manual will let it slip back into a higher gear.
This didn't happen in the beginning, then I was manually downshifting, now it goes on its own. Maybe a 'learned' behavior
Just my figuring, about 11.5 to 12.5 every day driving. I did get 15.5 on a 150 mile trip to Albany running 75 all the way. i only have about 1500 miles on the truck though.

Well I have taken my first long trip in the Titan, from Alabama to Columbus, OH so here's the numbers 75 MPH with cruise on, a disappointing 14.2 mpg filled up in Kentucky. In Tennesee , Kentucky and Ohio the speed limit changes back to 65 on the interstate so from there on 70 MPH with no cruise.. got up to 15.9 the last tank full. Aired my tires up to 36 PSI before trip and I do have the off-road pkg so low gear ratio and bigger tires. For the most part I usually average around 15 MPG so won't complain too much, Hell gas prices are outta site! Did see some snow this more above Nashville but not much.

That's not to bad. With a 14 percent lower diff ratio I'm realizing I can only squeeze so much out of it. Not sure but if I had to do it again I'd have to consider the taller ratio. It's a tough call for me.
Hi everyone. We're finally getting to the point here in Alaska that we can drive without being in four wheel drive. While in 4X4, I averaged 10 MPG. Once the roads get clear and dry, I'll let you know how I do. I still think my truck is great, though.

Welcome aboard. Is it just me or are Titans getting pretty popular in Alaska? Maybe it's just me, but it seems like a lot of folks from Alaska on TitanTalk.
Anyway, anything you'll ever need to know can be found on this site. Enjoy.
This is my first post to this forum and only my 3rd visit to the site. I am so
amazed at the abundance of information and the sharing of knowledge. This
is excellent.
I downloaded the spreadsheet for keeping track of my mileage from a posting
on ClubTitan. It works great. My Truck was purchased the last weekend of January.
I did not start checking the gas mileage until the date shown below. So far I am pleased.
Today (3/19/05) I made the modification to my stock air cleaner by cutting away
the extended tube that sits below the air filter allowing a better flow of air to the intake.
Before doing so I noted the the air filter showed obvious filth directly above the stock pipes opening and the remainder of the filter was clean. I will most likely be replacing the filter with a K&N soon. There is a definite difference in sound. Sucking more AIR.
