THE FINAL TITAN BRAKE FIX and the RESULTS - being discussed at Nissan Titan Forums in the Titan Talk Site Polls section.
OK I am really upset with my dealer about the brakes. I had my brakes done last year at 22K miles for the judder problem. They replaced the brakes, pads and roters, under warranty but not with the new stuff. At the time the upgraded brake parts were not available. My dealer said I shouldn't need the new upgraded parts and what they installed would work fine. After I had my brakes done I did receive a letter from Nissan stating my brakes would be covered under warranty for 36th months, unlimited mileage.
Now, it's exactly one year later. I have 44K miles and I have the same problem. I took my Titan in to the dealer for the final fix, brake upgrade. They are telling me the brakes are not under warranty because of a clause in the warranty that states if the pads are warn down in any way the warranty is voided. WTF My brakes just started to jutter about a week ago.
Has anyone else had a problem getting the final fix warranty done? If so how did you get hem to do it. I'm not paying for an $800 brake job on a vehicle that has a bad parts design
I had Southern States in Ral. NC do my first fix @ 4000 mi. turn rotors replace pads took a week to get a caliper clip, wasn't supplied with a loaner. They finally took the clip from a used truck in their inventory after I suggested it. Second brake fix @ 7600 mi. turned rotors replaced pads. I questioned the longevity of rotors that had been cut down twice, and was assured they would be fine. Third brake fix @ 12,000 mi. from Southern States of Apex, NC. It took a girl to hook me up, she replaced the rotors with the old ones and some kind of anti judder kit? Because the new ones were not yet justifiable in my case (and they were on back order). So She told me (on the Down Low) to call in a few weeks and complain about the judder once more and I would get the new stuff. Well I did and now at 38,000 mi. the brakes feel smooth and safe. Through all that I didn't complain once.
I am happy with the brake fix so far, I had it done last Thursday, The brakes are very smooth. they replaced the front rotors, resurfaced the rear rotors and put new pads on plus some hardware kit. They work the same as the originals just a lot smoother. To early to tell about brake dust, but I do see an accumulation on the wheels already but new brakes always do that at first. My only complaint is the dealer kept the truck a full 24 hours but the service dept. did a good job.
Just picked my Titan up from the dealership, and the new rotars and pads made a huge difference!! Started feeling the jitter at a little under 5K miles. I always thought the brakes were not as tight as they should be, and realize now they were VERY soft. The dealership replaced the front rotors, resurfaced the rear rotors and put new pads on plus a hardware kit. The brakes now are very sensitive and are very smooth. I am more than happy with the replacement, it feels great. My dealership was more than helpful and got it in and out in about 3 hours. Hope it lasts!!

i got the "right this way Mr. Kisner" , "do you need a ride to and from work Mr. Kisner"? & there is coffee inside for you to enjoy Mr. Kisner. Nissan of Scottsdale is where i bought my truck from, excellent service. i did my brakes about 3 k ago and so far they are better than the first 7 k. and much less brake dust too. very happy w/ my dealership- and i roll an xe too!!
Brake judder started at 7550 miles. Made appointment with dealership for Final Brake fix this past Friday at 8:00am. Truck not ready until 6:00pm. Had 7631 miles on odometer at replacement time.
According to service slip the following was performed:
Customer states pulsation/judder in brake when applied.
Final Fix
Found Front Rotors Warped
Replaced front rotors, front torque members, front pad kit, and rear pad kit, Machined rear rotors.
(Taken directly from service slip)
Hopefully, this fixes the brakes permanently. There is definitely a big difference in perceived braking force applied to the front wheels now. Braking distance is lower and feels firmer. My only complaint is with the amount of time taken for the dealership to perform the work. Dropped off at 7:45am, was not ready until 6:00pm.

*Edit* - I think post 21 took care of me, just ignore this...
I had to register so I could ask this simple question... How can I tell if the final fix is installed? I am looking for a Tundra/Titan (or maybe even a Frontier/Tacoma, but I really want the space) and found a Titan that fits the pocket book. But I started reading up, and the Brake issue could be a deal breaker for me. It's an 04 Titan SE with 41,291. I do not know if the previous owner had any issues. Before I take it out, I would like to know what I should be looking for. If the brakes fall under the warranty though, it might not be too bad... I am just a little nervous on dropping 20k and then having a huge brake issue.
Let's say I do do it and the brakes aren't covered, how much are we talking if I had to pay for the fix out of pocket?
Thanks,
Shuff

Shufflefield, if you drove the truck and the brakes stop smoothly, I doubt very much you will have a problem. The brake issue is for judder, a nasty shimmy in the steering wheel and brake pedal when applying the brakes. Since that truck has over 40k miles, it must of been fixed earlier, or never had the problem, not all Titans had brake judder. Hope this helps.
It helps. I took it out for a few hours, the brakes aren't very touchy, but they do work smoothly. I drove alot of Tundra's and Frontiers and Tacoma's the past 2 weeks. This was the only full size I found that fit my budget so I just bit the bullet. =)
Not a good vehicle for a single car garage, and my wife tried like hell to back into it when it was in the driveway, but I am sure we will adjust.
If I do have any brake issues I will post. I have the part #'s for the fix, so if I ever need too I will get it done.
Hello, I own a 2005 SE KC, with 20,500 miles on it. I bought it in July, and I don't think I've had the judder yet. My problem is that my brake pads are just about worn out, and I'm afraid that if I replace them at an outside shop (Meineke), and then I get the judder, Nissan won't want to replace them under the warranty.
Any suggestions?? Should I just take it in to Nissan and have them make sure that they have the corrected part already installed?? (Don't really want to do this since I'm in Mexico right now).
That is good to know I am still on my original 04 brakes without probs (not counting the brake dust) its good to know they did the right thing in case I ever have a prob.
i know what you meen on the brake dust....is it normal at a stop sign or stop light for the brakes to be making noise it almost sounds like it does when the abs kicks in when im sliding in snow...but im stopped at a stop sign?

my '04 LE problem started with break dust almost from new, when i complained to service writer i got a **** & bull story that it was normal. judder started at 2200mi. back to dealer 3 times before first brake job. to make a long story short last mon. had my ninth break fix, three months after the last fix,64000mi's. on truck. i watched the tech pounding on the rear roters with a hammer to free them up & when i got my keys & paperwork i was told rear axle seals are leaking to the tune of $354.00. i am almost 69 yrs. old & do not abuse my truck, i hope something can be done with the lemon law, i contacted the lawyer from this site.
