Is the J fluid synthetic?

If not is there a synthetic fluid you could use in replacement of the J fluid?

Re: Is the J fluid synthetic?

J matic is not synthetic. S matic is not synthetic.
Amsoil is synthetic. There are some other brands that are synthetic.
You might want to get some Smatic from Fontana Nissan.
The synthetics might make make the clutches too slippery.

Re: Is the J fluid synthetic?

Are people here only using j-matic or have they switched to synthetic after the warranty is over? I have switched over to Mobil 1 synthetic in my 1998 Frontier and there is a day/night difference as far as shifting. Its all good.

I replaced mine at 15K with Royal Purple Max ATF. Now at 28K no problems yet.

Lots of people use synthetics. I will switch to synthetic when the time comes.

Re: Is the J fluid synthetic?

My understanding is that the Nissan fluid is a synthetic blend...

I would like to go with Mobil 1 synthetic. Out of warranty. Good or bad idea?

Re: Is the J fluid synthetic?

Here is an analysis of my Matic J with 65,000 miles on it, 10,000 of which involved towing a 5,000# trailer in the heat of summer. After looking at this, why would you want to use anything other than J (now S)?

edit; added a larger copy of the analysis, hopefully it is easier to read. clicking on the first copy after openinging the thumbnail, should enlarge it.

Re: Is the J fluid synthetic?

Wow that report is really good info. With the change you did was it a full flush or just a drain the pan change. My dealer says only drain the pan every 30K and at 100K do the full flush. Any .02 cent opions?

I did the 12 qt flush using the cooler lines, but I started the task by doing a spill and fill first then went to the cooler lines for the final 8 1/2 qts. My sample for the analysis came out of the 3 1/2 qt spill.

My .02 cents; If I knew my fluid was in this good of shape, I would have waited till 100K to do the change. I should have done the analysis before buying the 12 qts of fluid. Just figured with all the summertime towing I do thru the mountains of upstate NY, it was due.
