Pullrite Hitch Question

I have a 06 Titan SE and am considering putting a Pullrite hitch on it to help with the sway problem I am having with my TT. Pull rite's website does not show a travel trailer hitch for anything above 05 but in contacting them they believe it would fit any model though 2010. That said, they can't guarantee it. Does anyone have any experience with this hitch on a 06 thru 09 Titan? Would appreciate any thoughts any of you may have!

Re: Pullrite Hitch Question

Can't speak about the Pullrite, but as far as I know the Nissan factory hitch fits all model years, so if it fits one it should fit all.

Lots of guys on here have put on aftermarket hitches (U-Haul, Pullrite, Reese etc), someone else chime in!

Re: Pullrite Hitch Question

What's your current hitch setup that is having problems with sway?

Re: Pullrite Hitch Question

I have a Reese WD hitch/Reese Friction sway control. I'm using the 12,000 rated bars. I'm towing a Keystone Cougar TT that weighs about 8500 lbs. Sway problem occurs when being passed by trucks and especially with crosswinds. I'm looking for a better hitch system but want to stay away from the Hensley Arrow and ProPride because of their weight. Any suggestions are appreciated!

mjw357, Your information about the Nissan factory hitch fitting all models seems to go along with Pullrite's assessment. Thanks!!

When you say Reese friction sway control, do you mean this thing?

If so then those are useless. There are a lot of good anti-sway hitches out there, I don't know how much the PullRite costs but I have read about it and suspect it's not cheap. Personally, I'm going to give the Reese SC a shot and see how that does.

Re: Pullrite Hitch Question

If you look into the Pullrite some more and find out pricing, let us know. The Reese Dual-Cam, Reese SC, and Equal-i-zer hitches are all under $500 for everything you need and there are a lot of people that swear by them. I looked into a PullRite 5th wheel hitch and just about died when I saw the price, I can't imagine the tow-behind hitch is cheap either. The Hensley Arrow is another hitch that people swear by, but they're also over $1000 (even used). The ProPride looks like it's very similar to the Arrow. Cost? Over $2300 new.

What are you towing? That would be a good indication of how aggressive you should go in terms of sway control, but I still can't see spending more than $500 on a quality WD and SC hitch. If I need to spend thousands of dollars on a hitch for a tow-behind trailer then either the trailer is way too big or the tow vehicle is way too small, IMO.

Re: Pullrite Hitch Question

Man, it's hard to find pricing info on the Pullrite non-5th-wheel hitch. Found some used ones, not for a Titan, and they're over $1000 used.

Plus, I found some more info on the Pullrite. The hitch alone weighs over 400lb and requires cutting/modifying your exhaust! HOLY CRAP. Over 400lb...there goes a good chunk of our remaining cargo capacity.

Whatever you decide to go with will be leaps and bounds better than what you have now.

Re: Pullrite Hitch Question

Thanks, Yahooligan! I didn't do all of the research that you did on the pullrite TT hitch because they couldn't tell me if it would even fit my Titan. I have been looking at the Equalizer and the Reese Dual Cam and will look into the Reese SC also. I agree that anything will be better than what I currently have.

Re: Pullrite Hitch Question

Hey ssener, I have the Equali-z-er hitch with the 1200lb. bars. Once I got it set-up perfectly I've had absoluty no problems towing. I've pulled it through a mild Santa Ana, had Semi's pass and experienced no sway at all. It's also pretty easy to hook-up too. The only issue which is kind of funny is that the hitch is a bit noisy, pooping and grinding while turning... it's a head turner pulling into the camp ground

BTW- I tow a 30' Jayco weighing in at 7500 lbs loaded.

Re: Pullrite Hitch Question

At 8500lbs I am guessing you Cougar is in the 28-30ft length range. Friction bars are not usually recommended for that length and weight. You should have been running 2 of them if anything. Go with the dual camor an Equal-I-zer. My Prowler is 30ft and tows nice with the dual cam.

Re: Pullrite Hitch Question

From what I've read and from forum discussions, I've been really impressed with the Reese dual cam sway control. Just wondering if it can be used with my current Reese WD hitch with 12000 lb bars? etrailer.com has an installation video showing it being used in conjunction with an existing WD hitch. I just haven't been able to find out if it works with any Reese WD hitch or only certain ones. Does anyone know this answer?

If it works with my current WD hitch, it makes the dual cam/WD setup cheaper by far.

Re: Pullrite Hitch Question

A Pullrite requires some real modifications to the frame of the truck to make it work right. Serious modification, and usually only done on 3/4 or 1 ton trucks because of its tremendous weight.

I've used a Reese Dual-Cam for over a dozen years; moved it from the former trailer to the one I've had for the last nine years. Trailer I have now is an Arctic Fox 26J, it weighs a little over 7000# ready to go, and has a tongue weight of about 825#. The Reese has done really well with this trailer; but there are other options like Blue Ox and E-qual-izer out there that also get a lot of good words.

You're right to throw out the friction "sway control," it's as effective as a spoiler wing on a Camry.

BTW, if you have a Reese hitch, you may only need a few parts to retrofit it to the dual-cam setup. I understand that Reese has a huskier model out now (think it's called the HD) that is supposed to be even better.

Hope this helps.

Re: Pullrite Hitch Question

Thanks POPS and Steamguy. Your info is appreciated. I'll look into the Blue OX also. No real hurry since I won't take the trailer out again until late January. That said, a good price could speed up everything!
