Hey guys. Ive been reading about all the aftermarket hitch installs and I have a question. I bought an after market hitch from ebay witch fit great. I ordered the wiring harness from the back of the truck to wire to my trailer, which is fine also. But there is no power at the back of the truck. I looked under the hood in the fuse box and only see one relay that is for trailor II.
There is a empty slot for trailer I. Do I need a relay for this slot also? Any help would be appreciated. Oh yeh. This truck did not come with the tow package.

I have a SE that I installed Nissan reciever on. It comes with two relays.
I have done some more investigating on my titan and it does not have relays as I thought before. There is just an empty slot were the relay should be. I does however have all the fuses for trailering. I need to know if this missing relay is the reason I am not getting power to the back of the truck or if there is another issue. Thank you for the reply.
I have the same problem. I only have relay No. 2 but I think that you should be able to power up the trailer with this one. I am going to buy my hitch on line tomorrow for $138. Let me know if you are able to solve the problem.

Yes it is the reason. The dealer carries both of the relays you are talking about. I have done the same thing and went throught the same problems. I just went to the dealer and they ordered the relays for me. put them in and badda boom badda bing.. Let there be light. Good luck.

Not sure if this is in the best place but here goes! I have a 2004 xe base truck. Had an after market custom hitch installed. The guy who installed it said I can tow up to 6500 lbs as is and 9500 with a weight distributing hitch. Is this correct I asked the service rep at the dealership and that was about a waste of breath! Please some help; I plan on buying a travel trailer soon and need to know how much I can tow thanks for all the help.
I have attached the schematic/wiring diagram for the tow wiring from the service manual. It should answer all of your questions

I had the same problem. Your brake lights and turn signals should work without the relays. I think you only have to have the small blue relay, but I had the dealer to get both. That took care of the problem. If your turn signals and brake lights fail to work, you have an additional electrical issue.

That's true the tow relay 1 gets you running lights and tow relay 2 gets you power. The brake lights and turn signals should work without the relays.
I believe you only need both relays if you plan on using the brake controller. Otherwise you should be fine just plugging in the pig tail to the existing wiring between the tail lights. ???
cttitan is correct. The relays have nothing to do with the trailer brakes. You need only relay 1(for running lights) if you don't need 12 volts power to the trailer (relay 2).
