travel trailers....

What are some good sites I can look at travel trailers to get pricing, etc.? I'm looking for one that has the inside like a motorhome (where I can sleep, kitchen, etc.) and that has the back opening so I can put quads, etc. in it. Thanks. Btw, got my Titan and I'm LOVING it!!

Enos,

What your looking for is called a 'Toy Hauler'.

Be choosy on which one you end up with....most of these are very long (30+ ft).

Chris

Thanks, Chris. Any manufacturer names? I have no idea who makes them or where to start looking for one or which is best. I queried Yahoo and it came up with a ton of hits. It's the proverbial finding a needle in a haystack. =)

Chris is correct, they go by toyhauler or SUT (sport utility trailer).

Here is one of the best forum sites you could find for learning about rv'ing:

Open Roads Forum

I'm sure you will get many opinions but Northwood builds some of the highest quality units and their customer service is the most amazing I've ever seen:

Northwood (Desertfox, Arctic Fox & Nash)

Don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions.

i used to have a Thor Wanderer Wagon 27' (good trailer)...now you can get smaller ones (which by the way....I would recommend) that do a lot more than the 25' or bigger...keep in mind. buy only what you need..for instance, when we bought ours we had 1 child with no other expectations of having another one....well, when Number 2 came along....it was like...WOW now what...even though it would have seemed like 2 kids require a lot of room...that is only true if they are small and you dont want your kids playing with scorpions during the day....now that my oldest is 5, he and I go out in our little cargo trailer and since the wife does not want to go deserting anymore (until or 1 year old gets more self sufficient), we dont need all the creature comforts...I swear it got to the point to where it seemed like i was spending 2 days before a trip loading the toy hauler too transfer our house into our mobile house....then 2 days to unload everything...if little ones arent an issue, then it really doesnt matter...but keep in mind...RV storage around where i live is expensive and not as easy to come by....also, it can be a pain every time you want to ggo somewhere you have to go to a storage yard to get your trailer...if you can store it at your place...all the better....ONLY BUY what you need...if little kids are not an issue, then buy one big enough for you to relax in and sleep in...once your asleep, does it really matter whats around you?...they make some pretty cool ones now..if your into dirt bike riding, etc....they have fuel cells with a fuel pump built in so you dont have to carry gas cans...if you plan on dry camping (no hook ups in the middle of no where) for at least 2 days...then make sure your fresh tank is big enough...my thor had 100 gal fresh, 35 black and 35 gray..and believe me when I say....it goes and it fills fast....most toy haulers are made with dry-camping in mind....also, if you plan on camping near people or in camp sites (that dont have electricity) then go for a built in generator, otherwise...generac makes a good and pretty quite 4000 watt one that you can put on wheels and use with your house if there is ever a power outage. also, I would recommend getting the smooth outer walls....much easier to keep nice (unless that doesnt matter to you)...you can finance an rv and write off as a 2nd home (at least in Cal) however, keep in mind RV storage is about the same monthly as an RV payment...I was paying 125 per month and my storage facility was 90 por month...If your in local Southern California Area, and you are planning on storing your RV at the El Toro Marine Base...while cheaper than any place around, keep in mind that there are about 5000 RV's being stored there and in about 1 year or so...the storage Co. may lose their lease..so it will be interesting to see what happens when 5000 RV's all of a sudden need a place to stay. Hope this helps and sorry for the Novel....I know a recent Dirt Rider magazine had a write up on a real nice hauler...but i dont remember the brand...mine was Thor.

Thanks for the replies guys. Do any of you know who makes toy haulers with the back part (for the quads, etc.) separated by a door? I've seen these, but haven't found a manufacturer with this option yet. I'd really like to get the quads separated from the rest of the trailer.

I remember seeing some garage style toy haulers like you mention at a rv show which I would highly recommend going to if you're interested, but I don't remember the mfr's names. My advice would be to go to as many local rv dealers as you can and look at as many models as you can so you can compare build quality and features that may be more appropriate or useful to you. I would also recommend the units with fiberglass sides as they are more durable and easier to keep clean than aluminium sided units.

Enos,

You can go to http://www.rvtraderonline.com/ and hit the "browse" link. Then hit the "toy hauler" link. You'll see a listing of a bunch of different manufacturers. Some of these aren't going to actually be toy haulers, but you can take the manufacter names and search for their individual websites.

Personally, I would lean toward Dutchman, Fleetwood, Jayco, Keystone, Nomad, Northwood, Prowler, and Thor. I'm not sure that any of those have specifically what you are looking for, but they are all well-established manufacturers and make great trailers. Personally, I wish Haulmark would start making a toy-hauler because they make incredible trailers and the greatest motorcoach I've ever been in. If you're bored and surfing, check out http://www.haulmark.com/ hit the "Motorcoach" link, then look at the floorplans for the MH-1 (park your cursor on top of the word "MH-1" above the image of the truck). Now THAT'S a toy-hauler! :-)

I agree 100% with kurtdb1. Get the smallest thing you are comfortable with and make sure you have a good storage space scoped out (close to home with GOOD security - vandalism is pretty high in some of the places I've dealt with, especially for parked RVs & trailers).

Good luck with your search!

Brady

I own a 31 Foot Play-Mor Sportster. Bought the Titan to Haul this Travel Trailer. I've seen post of guys that say they tow about 6700 lbs with the titan no problem. Well this trailer weighs 8900 lbs loaded up with my bike. I haul a 600 lb Harley Davidson in the back garage portion. This Play-Mor does have a separate room in the back that is the garage. Sleeps 6. Very well built. I did a lot of research before purchasing this TT. The Web site is at:

http://www.middletonrv.com/products/.../Sportster.htm

The picture on this site shows the aluminum sided version of what I have. I have the fiberglass sided version.

I would be glad to answer any questions you might have.

It handles it quite well. I've learned a lot just reading this forum for the past couple of months. I kind of just watch for awhile then post when I think I can contribute.

I don't stay in OD. As stated in another thread, my tranny temp goes up occasionally to the high "ok" level but never above that level. I have 8200 mi on my Titan and have changed the oil 3 times. At 1000,3000,6000. I have had the dealer check the tranny for smell or discoloration. No bad symptoms found.

I use a brake controller so stopping is no problem.

My Titan is the King Cab with Big tow package. I get a lot of looks from people and question like, " I didn't know Nissan made a full size pickup" especially one that can tow the trailer that I tow.

There are not many mountains in Florida... but the temps do reach into the mid 90's. No noticable problems yet. Great Truck and Great Trailer.
