Tow Hitch drop: how much drop do you need on a Titan?
I was looking into getting a universal Quick Draw hitch (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...spagename=WDVW) for my soon to be Titan. I see they are available in 5.5, 6, 8, 10 or 12 inch drops. I am not going to lift my Titan or put larger tires onto it. I plan on towing a travel trailer and various U-haul trailers. How much drop do I need in a stock Titan to accommodate just about any trailer? Anyone have this Quick Draw trailer hitch and if so, how do you like it?
That really depends on what trailor you are towing. I use a pretty short drop, probably around 2.5" at my estimate. But I've had to tow trailors where I needed more drop, so an adjustable one might not be a bad idea.
I was hauling a trailer of stuff for my father this weekend and noticed the trailer nose rode at a higher angle than on my previous Jeep Wrangler. I also believe it is roughly a 2" drop down to the ball on the titan.
Ok...so it was raining non-stop when I hooked up the trailer and soon pulled out. Well, to make a long story short, I too will look for an adjustable height hitch.
While backing the truck/ trailer around my sister-in laws car, I managed to hook the trailer with my rear left bumper and sure enough.....I am on my way tomorrow a.m. to get an estimate for a new bumper as the original ripped right in half....no other apparent body damage just a wee bit of frustration.
Ive got a 4" drop on mine , but i pull a 16' flatbed trailer mostly. it rides level loaded but still at a slight incline empty. like the others have said, just depends on your trailer.

I have the standard 2" drop on a 4X4 with the OR package, and as you can see from the attachment the boat trailers pretty level. With a shorter tongue maybe a 3-4" would be good.
I bought a Master Lock, Adjustable Height Zero Tilt Ball Mount at Walmart for about $55. Then a Towing Products, quick release 1 7/8" and 2" balls, that use the same 1" shank, and they can be switched with a dime or screw driver. An added benefit is they spin. The adjustable hitch is rated max. trailer 5000 lbs. and max tongue 500 lbs. Adjust with a 7/8" wrench or a 3/8" socket wrench drive, (has a square indentation in the 7/8" nut-like adjuster). Can be used to rise or drop. With it lowered all the way down, I measure 5 3/8" from the bottom of the square two inch part that slides into the receiver to the top of the plate that the shank ball mounts to. http://masterlock.com/cgi-bin/app_se...b_cat_id=D2841
With the bed of the truck empty and without a trailer, the top of the ball should measure ~18.5" from the ground.

I bought the exact same set-up. I'm very happy with it. I keep it in the box it came in along with a 3/8" ratchet. It fits perfectly behind the backseat. It's nice to know I can tow just about any trailer without carrying around a bunch of different sizes. I also like that it an be adjusted while the trailer is connected, and I can level the trailer after loading.
