Towing Capabilites of Titan SLE with towing package (5th Wheel)

My dealer says I have a 1/2 ton towing capacity. Does anyone know the maximum pin weight that a Titan will haul a 5th wheeler. Saleman says the Titan will tow as much as 1800# pin weight easy. I want to buy a 32.2' 5th wheel, but don't want the expense of the set up and the trailer if my truck is unable to haul it. I now pull a 30' travel trailer with no problem, but what I am looking at will be heavier.

What year and what trim level are you? Hint: SLE is not a trim level offered.

Re: Towing Capabilites of Titan SLE with towing package (5th Wheel)

Sorry Carbeaux, the trim level is a 5.6 SE. If that's what the trim level is on a Titan, I'm confused by the term. And it's a 2004.

Re: Towing Capabilites of Titan SLE with towing package (5th Wheel)

Welcome Sonny, You may want to look at a newer model Titan if your main purpose is towing. The 04's had quite a few issues, as any first model run does, and most of these issues have been worked out over time. If, however, this is the only vehicle on your horizon, then I'd be sure to have the VIN checked through a local dealer to verify all recalls and campaigns have been updated on this particular truck. I'd also be sure it has the factory tow package and updated rear. If the truck has been well cared for and all the issues have been rectified, then it may be a worth while purchase for you. Just an additional point, the newer models handle towing and payload quite a bit better than the earlier models. Good luck and keep us posted.

The salesman is wrong, sorta. The payload capacity on your truck is only about 1200 lbs. For the '08 and up it's more in the range of what the salesman told you.

+1.

My rolling brick of a trailer weighs 7,000# on the wheels, 800# on the hitch.

No problems here. These early 04's must be lucky.

Re: Towing Capabilites of Titan SLE with towing package (5th Wheel)

I'm going to guess you have a xcab. I would find the sticker on the rear axle that tells you the gears in it. If you have had it since new you would hopefully know without looking there if it came with the hitch and tow mirrors. 1425 lbs 2wd 1410 lbs 4wd with tow package. 1110 for 2wd and 4wd without tow package.

Pulling a 29' JayFlight, 1400# pin weight, with no issues. I only have to run about 35# in the airbags to keep the bed level.

Re: Towing Capabilites of Titan SLE with towing package (5th Wheel)

I need some help. Are airbags better than having an add-a-leaf? I'm not sure what the advantages may be and just what they do, plus how do you air them up? Ballpark, what is the cost, plus installation?

Re: Towing Capabilites of Titan SLE with towing package (5th Wheel)

I don't remember exactly how much. I think I may have paid $350.00 for the firestone airbags and paid $200.00 to have them installed. The air valves are mounted on either side of the license plates. I think they are better than leafs. You can add air when you need it and bleed off the air when you don't. I usually put about 50 pounds of air in when I tow the 5th wheel. The truck doesn't drop at all and it has a sturdy ride.
