trailer wiring

So, just check my connections and wires on my hitch. My lights work, and left turn signal/brake light. The right side turn signal does not work. I unplugged from the harness back by the hitch and I have nothing at that connection point either. So, something is not working pretty much between the back of the truck up to the fuse box. I looked in the relay spot under the hood. I have a trailer tow #1 with nothing in it, Trailer tow #2 with the relay, and that's it. There's an open spot next to the trailer 2 relay where a relay could go, but nothing there. The rest don't even have provisions for a relay to plug into it.

Any thoughts?

Re: trailer wiring

You should have a relay in both tow spots.

My truck didn't come with big tow so I bought the relays and now all my lights and signals work.

Re: trailer wiring

Relays have nothing to do with the turn signal/brake lights. Check for the BCM harness mod where there may be a fuse blown.

Re: trailer wiring

Like mjw357 stated, if you have had the tow harness TSB done, there should be two additional fuse for the left/right trailer turn signal.
Under the hood you should have a blue and brown relay but you can do WITHOUT the brown relay if you don't need 12V power to
the trailer (ie for charging a battery source on the trailer).

Re: trailer wiring

Hmmm, I think I'll have to take a picture and post what I'm looking at. I wasn't aware of a TSB for anything and I do not have the BT package. I'll take a pic in a minute so you guys can educate me.

So, the left turn does work, just not the right. Are there two different fuses or one that controls both? If it's one, then I have a wire issue somewhere.

Re: trailer wiring

So, I understand it's two wires but is it two fuses as well? Thanks again for everyone's help.

That is correct, one fuse per circuit.

Ok, last ignorant question. Where are these fuses? Under the hood with the relay box I only see one fuse as pictures above.

Or are we talking the fuse panel on the passenger side?

Re: trailer wiring

I just went thru all of this...turned out to be a corroded harness...clean your harness!

The best way to find the fuses other than that great pic that was on that other post is to look under the steering column, to the right side look for two little white caps...inside there is a 10A fuse each...one for the right turn and one for the left turn. Thanks to some other members on here I learned that the brake and turn signals come from the BCM...the relay just controls the running lights..which is nice to have too if it gets dark lol.

There is one 10A fuse for towing up in the fuse box behind the relay box also...see the link to the pic that was posted on the other thread to find the fuses under the steering column
