First Tow

No, this doesn't mean that my '05 had to be towed, it means that I somehow waited until I had 1200 miles on her to hook up my 21 foot travel trailer and take off for a weekend at the beach. Just wanted to give a towing report. O5 CC 2WD with BT pkg., Prodigy brake controller, trailer weighed 4200 lbs. Stopped at weigh station to confirm. Using a weight distributing hitch. Trailer towed great! Have drug that same trailer before with an Explorer and wow, what a difference. Trailer towing ability is what I bought the Titan for and I wasn't a bit disapointed. Plenty of power in the hills. In fact, going over I had a guy on my tail for a while but when he realized that I was able to keep it at 60 to 65 on the hills, he backed off and followed me all the way to the beach. Stayed at Cape Lookout State Park on the Oregon coast and had several people who walked by in the campground stop and check out the "new tow vehicle". I just sat in my trailer and smiled the whole weekend. Thanks Titan, I just hope you hold up.

Have towed 8500+ lbs several times with mine-- now have almost 17000 miles and not a single problem (except the occasional Darth Vader A/C hiss)!!

Just curious, what do you have the gain adjustment set on your Prodigy controller?

Titan Ken: First time using the Prodigy so kept adjusting up until wheels started to lock then backed off a little. Think it ended up about 7.5 with boost set on 1.

does the weight distributing hitch replace the stock one with the BT package? If so how do you unweld it from the frame? My friend said you had top replace the entire hitch to use a weight distribution one. I h ave a 21 foot trailer to pull too but it's about 6000 -7000lbs max....I need to know what all I should buy to tow it.

Do a search on weight distribution hitches and you will find what you need to know. You do not have to do anything to the truck. The receiver on the truck is fine. The weight distribution hitch is the part that you attach to the truck and trailer.

There are many different brands out there each having their own unique qualities. Do your research before you buy and make sure you get a hitch that is right for your trailer. Don't be afraid to spend a little money to protect the investment you have in your truck and trailer, not to mention the safety of your family and those on the road around you.

Here are a few sites with info:

WD Hitches
Equalizer

Hi All
This has been covered many times but just as a reminder: On page 9-21 of your owners manual.
Under CAUTION:
Do not tow a trailer or haul a heavy load for the first 500 miles (800 km). Your engine, axle or other parts could be damaged.

It looks like you are OK on this but its the next one that concerns me.

CAUTION: For the first 500 miles (800 km) that you tow a trailer, do not drive over 50 mph (80 km/h) and do not make starts at full throttle. This helps the engine and other parts of your vehicl wear in at the heavier loads.

I hope this helps and I know how hard it is not to run over 50 mph for 500 miles when the truck wants to run.
