I would expect them to bump up GVWR so that the payload is the same as a Regular cab, long bed truck. Then again, I won't worry about going over 200lbs over as that's just "1" person more sitting in it.

With the space of the Titan, it's safe to say with hunters/fishermen, you may be cramming at least 4 or 5 people in this truck, weighing a total of 1000lbs. I have big friends. Add a 4000lb TT or boat with gear to my truck (which has an estimated 1181lbs of payload) and I'm overweight. With the seating size and the low 4000lb weight compared to a 9500 max tow capacity, this truck as loaded, would logically seem loaded light to what you would think it should handle.

I talked to a fellow Titan owner a few days ago. We were talking about trailer towing and I mention GVWR. The guy thought he could pull 9500lbs with the truck full of people and gear. In honesty, I use to think the same until I found out how lightweight these 1/2 ton truck's GVWRs are. Hek, the new midsize trucks match these 1/2 ton payloads.

Have a good one.
Marketing, ya got to love it.

I needed a 3/4 ton truck but I just couldn't pass on the Titan. Still need a 3/4 ton truck.

I'm hoping Nissan does come out with a 3/4 ton diesel for 07. I'll be one of the first on the T.T. block to buy one.

So what, if anything, can we infer from this? Are 1/2 tons underrated? Or are the listed capacites really that low? At this point I really don't care what the numbers say, I'm going to tow and haul what I want and let the truck tell me when I'm asking too much of it.

BTW A friend of mine has a Cheby crew cab, with a 8' box (pretty long), even though it is a 1500, it is actually built on the 3/4 ton frame, C frame by the way. So that is one way a 1/2 can have a larger payload.

So not always apples to apples...

So don't forget that talking apples to apples might be just the same as talking apples to oranges in some cases. THEY'RE ALL FRUIT!

Your only as strong as your weakest link and that's the suspension, then the axles.

Load capacity is more a function of the suspension, axles, rear end, transmission, and the brakes.

Have a good one.

And tires too?

From what I hear the tires come into play on the factory GVWR, and these damn passenger car tires we got don't have a good load rating like a decent set of LT tires.

I am pretty sure if it has a 3/4 frame then it would also have the 3/4 suspension. Why they even call it a 1500 I am not sure.

I showed him the video "The Truth About Trucks" and the frame part. He was like "no way does my Cheby have a C frame" I said according this video it does. He's like "where is the Titan frame comparsion", I said they don't compare stuff that is superior to theirs
Next time I talked to him he said it did have a C frame, he couldn't believe it.

Want to know why? Easy...the frame on the 1500 and 2500 are exactly the same. As are the frames on the Ram 1500/2500 and F150 abd F250s. They do differ on the HD 1 ton models though. Axles, diffs, suspensions and tires are whats different.

Now...try and figure out just what makes a 1/2 ton truck, a 1/2 ton. Can't be its' payload, that'd make the Titan a 3/4 ton....as would be most 1/2 tons.
Hmmmmmmmm.

The frames rails are majorly larger on the 2500HD 3/4 ton. Not even remotely similar to the 1500.

Except for the crew cab version. That is what I was talking about.

I like to think of load capacity as "what I want to end up lifting". Either to load or unload. In my case I could use a truck with about 50# payload. (about the weight of a few steaks, Beer, box of cigars, etc)

Seriously, I bought the truck on the basis of how it drove. Like the ride and I tow a #5500 Travel trailer for fun. Never even considered the Ford, Dodge, or GM. When I started reading through the TSB's and Recalls for them (See Alldata.com), I decided to go a different direction. Very happy.
