Boat / sports rack

I need more space in the back. Four boats and two persons gear for a weekend is maxing the bed out. I've been thinking of having a custom rack welded up but garage clearance is a issue. I've only have about 6 inches to spare. The Thule sports rack is nice in that it's height adjustable. Load it low and I can still use the garage. The thing I don't like is that in mounts in the bed so that kills the idea of a roll back bed cover which I would also like to get. Does anyone that has the Thule product think it's possible to modify it to mount into the bed rail peg holes, or does anyone know of another product or way to do what I'm thinking about?

Do you have the Utilitrack? If so check out the Nissan factory rack. Used with that Yakima cargo thingy you could put a couple long-arse kayaks on your truck!

Yeah, I have the UT stuff. The factory racks also mount inside the bed which is what I want to avoid to allow a roll top cover. Also my kayaks are the white water type. Less than 7 feet long. Custom maybe the way to go. Anyone know how deep the bed rail hole are?

I know this a total divergent way of thinking but what about buying a small utility trailer? You could haul your short length kayak and everything else that wont fit in the bed such as ice chests, stoves, tables, etc. when you camp out. I bought a brand new 5' X 8' utility trailer for $700.00. You could probably buy a used one for less than half that.

The trailer I have tracks right behind the Titan so there is no need for wide turns etc. When I need to park it I pull straight through two parking spaces and it fits perfectly. It is easy to move around by hand since the tongue weight is less than 100 lbs. You'll find a 1,000 uses for the thing.

Stomper, I wouldn't dismiss a trailer right away. The big time Jeepers use them all over the place. RE: the posts you listed, if the truck it, the trailer probably will.

Maybe if the water is too swift and the trailer light, maybe problem, but I have seen amazing things on jeep safaris.

Aso you can raise up the trailer on its axels easily. We all do it to our travel trailers.

Good luck.

I found this on amazon.coms thingy, it would work with an access top.

Availible for both king and crew cabs, looks kick *** but pretty spendy.
