No Towing Package???

Ok, here is story. I bought my 04Titan 4 wdr last december and among other things I ordered the factory towing package. After I brought it home I noticed that there was no hitch under the bumper. I took it back to the dealer and they assured me that the rest of the package was installed just the hitch was missing. I mentioned the gas tank only held 23 gallons (suppose to be larger 26 gallons?) but they assured me I just did not run in low enough to get 26 in. At any rate I ran it out of gas by mistake the other day and lo an behold it only will take 23 gallons. Now I am wondering if I am missing the rest of the package which I believe includes upgraded axles and gear ratios. Does anyone know how I can prove one way or another what I actually received? Will the VIN number identify the towing package. I appreciate any help on this that you guys can give.

The BIG TOW package comes with more than just the hitch. Do you have big tow mirrors, a temperature gauge, bigger battery and difference gear ratio? They can easily put the mirrows, hitch and bigger battery but not the temp. guage and gear.

the only visable way you're going to be able to tell if you have the BT package is the hitch of course (you say that you don't have that), extendable side mirrors and the tranny temp gauge. here are some pics to help you out...tranny gauge in yellow circle. and these mirrors. gears, you're not really going to be able to tell. these two should help you out.

I was not aware of any difference in gas tank capacity between Big Tow and non Big Tow. I frequently add 23 gallons to my not yet completely empty gas tank.

WAIT.... The Big Tow mirror Extend out??? I didn't know that. I tried once with them and they didn't seem to move. I'm gonna have to go try again later today.

I am just throwing this out there, if this is not the case just ignore my post. But are you sure you are not confusing the mount and ball with the hitch itself?

When I was shopping around for my truck, one dealer told me they could get the exact truck I wanted for a certain price we negotiated on. They didn't have it on site but will get it for me, when the truck came in it had everything EXECPT the big tow. The saleman told me no big deal, we will just add the hitch to it, I told no there's more to it than just the hitch and listed what should all be included. Ended up getting the one I wanted at a difference dealership.

Well I feel alot better now. I have the big tow mirrors and the trans temp guage as well. I really can not explain why I get so little fuel in my tank but it sounds as though the same tank size is in every truck. As far as the hitch goes it really was completely missing they install an oem hitch for me later. Thanks for the help guys!

Another way would be to look at the window sticker printed by nissan that shows YOUR VIN and all the equipment installed...

My truck had LE rims on the back and SE rims on the front, so mistakes do happen, but wow, thats an interesting mistake...

The hitch was most likely just taken off the truck at the dealership to put on another one for whatever reason. I bet they just never replaced it. As for the gas tank, Somethings not right. If you ran out, you should take all of the 28 gallons for sure. Is it possible that the gas pump just stops at certain dollar amount? I have seen some that stop at $50, $60 and $70 dollars. Maybe the pump just cut you off before it was filled. ?????? Just a thought.

I just put 25+ gallons in mine. Had to do $50.00 first then grab the plastic again and add 8 more gallons. Gee glad I'm not filling one of those dual tank trucks. My low fuel light comes on at about 23 gallons. I know I can keep going, just gets to me having it on all the time.

28 gallons

I have never been able to get 28 gallons of gas into my tank. How far below the E does the needle need to go to be really empty?

I read somewhere on the page that the light comes on when 5 gallons is left, is that correct?
