Smile Towed 5000 miles

Just returned from towing a Rockwood 33.5' TT with 05 XE KC, little tow, over 5000 miles. Towed like a champ! MPG from 10 at 70 MPH to 13 at 60 MPH. Towed in 4th with tow/haul mode on. Truck cap helped with aerodynamics. Wet weight of trailer was 7200 lb. No hard acceleration...temp gauge never budged. Running Mobil 1 synthetic. Didn't use a drop. Mostly flat up I-95 but some good mountains in PA.

I must have one of the thirstier Titans. We just took a trip from Phx. to San Diego and back pulling a 29' 7K# (loaded), and the best I got was 8.54mpg (mostly doing 62-65mph). I guess I need to get off my butt and order that cap. Hopefully that will help a little. Got pictures?

Just curious what your logic is for saying the truck cap helped with mileage?

The cap allows the air to flow over the trailer instead of hitting the front head-on

Sounds like a great trip.
And yes the Cap does make the truck a little more aerodynamic.

I average 8.6 mpg with my 2005 SE CC 4x4 BT (no shell) when I tow my travel trailer. I just don't tow enough to make the shell worth it.
