Question gooseneck horse trailer questions

I did a search for gooseneck trailers and was only able to find some old posts. Is there anybody out there that is pulling a 2 or 3 horse trailer (gooseneck)? What type of hitch are you using and what type of brake controller? I don't want to have to remove the whole hitch when I'm not using the trailer.

Is the Titan having any problems handling the weight? I've never towed anything, is there a big difference in manuevering capabilities with the Titan towing something? Don't want to be a nervous wreck the whole time I'm driving the thing.

I have a 2005 kingcab 4x4 with big tow and am wanting to purchase a two horse gooseneck with living quarters (16 to 18 feet in length with a weight of 5000 to 5500 lbs., then I have to add the 2400lbs. of horses and 400 to 600 lbs. of supplies/water tank weight/etc.)

If you have something similar to this configuration what brand of trailer are you towing? I think my best bet would be to purchase an all aluminum trailer with the lowest empty weight I can find. Any suggestions on manufacturers?

That is going to be too much weight for the Titan to "safely" travel if there is anyone but you in that truck. Have you thought about going the 3/4 or 1 ton truck route? With the weight you are going to be hauling, your rearend is going to take a pounding. Although Nissan says that your truck can tow 9*** pds., I would not recommend it for extended trips with the Dana 44.

Re: gooseneck horse trailer questions

BIGRIG227, my parents have owned horses all my life. We have had goosenecks also all my life. For many years we used a half ton 350 Chevy to tow the trailer so you should be fine. As far as the rear end goes, don't baby this truck if it breaks under normal recommended weight and usage NISSAN will take care of it. As far as hitches and balls go we like the hide-a-ball type since it allows for full use of the truck bed and there isn't a greasy ball waiting to ruin someone clothes. This site shows one type of the hitch I am referring to; http://www.bageco.com/gooseneck.htm
As far as the weight goes you could lighten your load by looking at aluminum trailers, they are more expensive, but if you are planning on doing any pulling in the mountains you will appreciate the weight difference. Some of the brands we have owned include 4-star, Sundowner, and Hart. Of them all dad says he like the Hart the best. As I said earlier my family used a half-ton to pull our 4-horse gooseneck for years, we made the trip from Jackson Tn. to Eminence, Mo. every year fro about 20 years. If you check out the map you can see there are some good hills on that trip, but very few truck problems were encountered.

Re: gooseneck horse trailer questions

Does that Merhow 2 horse slant have living quarters in it? What's the length and weight of it empty? You were the one I was trying to get hold of after seeing your picture in a tow thread. Any problems with towing 2 horses, gear, driver & passenger in the truck? Do you like the brand?
