Been reading old posts about towing. Great stuff. In summary, the concensus is to tow in 4th gear w/tow mode on. Got it. But like the title says, how fast can you tow in 4th gear?
Faster than you would care to go with a heavy load
I've been up to about 75-80 interstate driving. I don't know what the rpm's were, but It's gonna be close to the same as without a load once you get rolling.
If you want to know, just put it in '4' on the highway without a load. It will be about the same.

You just drive as you normally would...keeping in mind that you are towing something behind you of course. If you're not towing anything heavy....say...under 2000 LBS, you can get away with leaving it in "D". Anything heavier and you'll see the tranny temp rise if you don't use 4th gear.

We've been to 80, running from a tornado. Wouldn't recommend that kind of speed for any one who hasn't handled big loads at speed before, though.
The whole rig could have gone faster but the tornado was getting smaller in the mirror fast enough. Anyway, that's stupid-fast and should not be done in anything other than dire emergency conditions like that.
Oh, and the truck gets 6 MPG going that fast, for you guys tracking gas mileage.

This was on a trip from VA to Glamis last year, 21' enclosed v-nose trailer appx 6000 lbs. My buddy was driving and I didn't realize he was going this fast, I was keeping it under 80.

Hard to tell from the image, but it looks like he busted you for 83 in a 75? That blows...
Nice to show off the ticket. Its funny that if your towing with the Titan at 10 over the speed limit, the big 3 guys still have to roll past you on the hwy and check it out.

Thats in California ... Speed is 55 pulling anything. Lucky bastard, I got a ticket for going 65 in a 75 but I was pulling.
Looks like AZ to me.
Still pulling you over for 8 over? I'm a bit shocked. Maybe things are different back East. I know lots of guys that hammer down with 3/4 and 1 tons with light loads (for them #6000) and never have problems...

BTW... I can pull safely, 8,000lbs 29ft TT, 75MPH. I like to keep it about 68MPH with that load.
That's right, most states have a maximum towing speed that most don't know about. Most states are either 55 or 65. Maine, for instance, is 45 MPH! Some are 70 or 75 which is just ridiculous IMHO.
