Smile Welcome to the New Towing and Hauling Forum!

Due to popular demand, Titan Talk would like to present the new Towing and Hauling forum. Please use this forum to start topics related to trailers, hitches, trailer brakes, securing heavy loads, trailer lights, etc. This forum isn't just for towed loads, but also for discussion of bed payloads (motorcycles, landscaping materiels, heavy equipment, etc.)

Enjoy!

Re: Welcome to the New Towing and Hauling Forum!

OK so I have a question.. While towing my 25' 5th wheel if I drive in 4th with
tow mode on, the truck shifts down to 3rd on the hills and I have all the power needed to pull the hill and then some, then if I lift a little bit it seems
to shifts to 4th where it pulls good with less reving then it seems it goes to 5th when the RPMs get to about 2700 then kicks back to 4th after it lugs in 5th and back and forth it goes until I lift and put it in 3rd and and it revs to about 3000 rpms or so.. lost yet? so my question is I thought "Tow
mode" locked out 5th gear.? then I tried pulling a hill in "D" and it shifts to 4th
and pulls real good but the tranny guage goes right up.. does the " Tow Mode" do anything? Seemd like to much shifting going on.. anyone else notice
this? or should we just stick it in third and go for it? and how long till we smoke the tranny?

This is great news, I have always thought this would be a perfect additional forum. Thanks for finally setting it up.

And super thanks for pulling so many of these older threads together and putting them in their new home; nice job!

Question Re: New Towing and Hauling Forum!

I was told that Superlift Suspension air lift kits or Helper springs cause the ABS brakes to not respond. Is ths true? Or a dealer lied . I was told about an add on to the hitch that is better. Has any one tryed this air lift kit and had no problem? Has any one used Hell-Ya Hitch Helper did keep the nose heavy trailer from dragging the jack again and the truck at normal hight? please look at thi 600 dollar wonder. http://hell-ya.com/

Do not tow in 5th it will overheat and wear out your transmission. Tow Mode does nothing but adjust shift points at higher RPMs for more "pulling power". Tow in 4th and if you notice that the torque converter is locking and unlocking (feels like a half shift) or the trans temp is rising shift into 3rd.

Re: Welcome to the New Towing and Hauling Forum!

Hey everyone, this is my first post since I bought my '04 Titan back in Oct 04. Anyway, I am now looking at a 30' travel trailer from Keystone, Dutchmen, Holiday Rambler, Fleetwood, etc.

I haven't picked out my trailer yet, but I am wondering what towing equipment will I need to buy when I buy my RV? I have the big tow package, and I've towed pop-up campers in the past with my SUVs. I'm now looking at taking the big family plunge into a big trailer.

I'm used to the single sway bars, but don't know the physics of the weight distribution, equalizing, air bag, suspension helper stuff.

I'm prewired for the brake control, but that's all I know. What products do you towing veterans recommend? What websites are out there to better educate me on the Titan's towing? This forum is wonderful!

I don't plan on towing a 5th wheel or anything over 7,000 lbs. dry.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanx,
Kroak
