Re: Towing Jayco Eagle 314bhds Travel Trailer Safely

Have 2004 Tital Crew Cab...pulling 27 1/2 Jayco Feather Lite...about 6300 lbs loaded with extras. Just got back on 3500 mile trip pulling thru 10,000 foot passes. Live in West Texas where wind blows constantly. Have sway bars and load equalizers. Even with this weight, I can pass any 3/4 or 1 ton vehicle on hills. Just can't pass gas stations too well when she's blowing. Never gets hot or looses control...just slow down in those cross winds where you feel control of everything...keep good rubber all the way around. Have a blowout on trailer once due to bad tire and did not know about it until I stopped and checked. Have 70,000 on it and still like new...just can't add 5'th wheel hitch without a lot of expense...

Re: Towing Jayco Eagle 314bhds Travel Trailer Safely

I pull the Jayco Eagle 322FKS with front kitchen and two slides. Weight about the same. I use weight dist hitch with sway bar. The trailer pulls fine and the sway is no more than normal. I pull my trailer around 55-60 mph. The Titan pulls it very well. Just make your setup is good on your hitch. Watch your added weight . Of course, a big 250 diesel would be a better tow rig but the Titan will pull it ok. Just stay to low speeds and you will be good. I think the front kitchens pull better than most. Good luck.

Any pics of that rig and set-up? Sounds nice!

Re: Towing Jayco Eagle 314bhds Travel Trailer Safely

I have towed a Fleetwood 280RKS and a Cougar 304BHS both long and heavy and my setup did fine. I just slow down in corners and high winds. I pull off in slow vehicle turn outs when I do slow down. I always inspect tires for condition and pressure along with wheel torque before every trip. The airbags were a great plus. One of my biggest improvements were the front and rear Stillen Swaybars. Made the truck rock solid. Like others have stated take her easy and use your brain. This truck has amazing tow capabilities and getting there is half the fun (when driven safely).
