Questions on new Travel Trailer

I have an 05 titan (XE) that I tow a 24' 6" tt. I am looking at buying a new tt that is 28' 6" that weights about 700 lbs more. The tt has an 5500 gvwr. Just wondering if this is to long for the Titan. The truck tows my existing camper very well. I do use an equalizer hitch. I also wonder why there is a 1000lb difference between the (xe) and (se) tow ratings. I have also upgraded my shocks and tires. Any info would be helpful.

Re: Questions on new Travel Trailer

I tow a 32' Jayco with my crew cab. Loaded she weighs about 7k, no problems at all. The titan has all the power to tow, my issue is towing something that long like a sail, I sway like a b**ch when it's windy, but keeping the speed down helps a lot. You won't have any problems.

Re: Questions on new Travel Trailer

I woudl say you will be fine. I think the only difference between the SE and XE that could effect the tow ratings is the tires. But I'm not even convinced of that. I think it's mainly just a marketing ploy. They want you to buy the more expensive model to get a higher tow rating.

Re: Questions on new Travel Trailer

I also pull a 32 1/2' jayco, but it weighs closer to 8000lbs. The truck has no problem power wise pulling this load. The only problem I encounter is the height and length of the trailer causes the problem the coach mentions. At over 11' tall, the wind sure likes to push the trailer around. A good sway control hitch helps and if you keep your speed in check, you should have no problems.

Re: Questions on new Travel Trailer

Thank you all for your imput. I picked the camper up today, tows very well. It is a Surveyor by Forest River.
Model# sv264 (4040 tdw) (5500 gvw) (28'6") I towed around 65mph with no problems at all. It was very hot today and the truck ran normal temps. We towed about 50 miles back to my house. It sure seems longer compared to my other camper (24' 6"). But overall, I was very pleased with my Titan.

Re: Questions on new Travel Trailer

I say your fine also......I think the difference comes in the tires...the XE has different tires then the rest. Maybe there not rated as high?????

But I don't think there are any other structural differences........
