Want 5th Wheel King Cab Info Look Here

I’m posting this link for Titan owner with KC’s that want to tow a 5th wheel. This is a bit of a story:

You see, my mother and my Aunt are about to retire. They both live in MI and want to do the snow bird thing as well as travel. They thought they would get a 5th wheel so they went to look at them. The dealer told her the Tian or the Ford with “the big engine” can both tow 9500 pounds. Mom really did not want a super expensive tow vehicle, and with 2 Camry’s under her belt said she did not trust Fords.

Of course, we already had a Titan in the Family (mine) and I had read the posts about lets see some pics of what your towing, so I knew there were guys towing 5’ers out there with Titans. Getting a 5th wheel hitch installed in a Titan proved a challenge and that is the whole purpose of this post, to help people with information specifically for 5th wheel towing in a King Cab.

So they found there Trailer, a 28 foot Keystone Outback. Weight is 7700 pounds dry. The same dealer that told her the Titan could tow 9500 pounds also told her the PullRite hitch was the ONLY hitch they could install because she ONLY had a 6.5 foot bed on her 06 4x2 King Cab with Big Tow. Did I mention there $3000 for the PullRite? Of course I knew this was Bravo Sierra because my friend with a 2500 Silverado with a Duramax also has a 6.5 foot bed and he tows a 5’er no problem. The bed of a Crew Cab is to short and you would need a PullRite hitch.

So I searched here. To the people that put the brand of hitch in their profile, thanks you very much.

Some people had the B&W Turnover ball hitch. This is and underbed hitch that they have a 5th wheel adapter for. I am told they are a quality hitch but the hitch plus the adapter runs in the $1500 ballpark.

Another brand was the HiJacker hitch. The model 24 UL is a 16K hitch for the Titan and they have the installation instruction on there webpage specifically for the Titan. This a Canadian company and I called them to find a dealer near my mother, ultimately finding one about 1 hour away in Elkart Indiana.

So one of the dealers I talked to said the Hijacker is not really a great hitch and Recommended a Valley hitch. He said that he had indeed put a number of them in Titan. It was a 16K sliding hitch (which is what you want) and was ~ $950 installed with a power port in the bed. So she went this route and experienced RV’ers that have looked at it said it’s a great hitch. Here is the specific information: They installed a Model 70540 Valley hitch. This is a RV 5th wheel hitch with 16,000 maximum trailer weight and 4,000 vertical load weight. The also installed a Model 70460 Glider 5th wheel attachment used for shortbed P/U applications.

Reece also make a 16K sliding hitch for the Titan but I was told buy a dealer that there are no “guidelines” from the company about installing one in a Titan.

I have not personally towed this setup yet. My brother, who used to deliver boats (big boats with a diesel dully) towed with the Titan and he said it tows great and that the truck isn’t working at highway speeds. Gas mileage has been 10-11 mpg.

I installed the 15k Reese hitch... no slider. I have a 26Ft Cobra at around 6500 lbs.

I found all the dealers wanted to sell me more. I bought the hitch and universal mounting kit direct from Reese. They told me they could not guarantee the hitch / kit on a Titan as it was never tested.

I installed the hitch myself and had a professional welder tack the brackets to the frame. Drilling was a bit of a PIA for bolts.
I have towed all over Texas and just recently returned from Florida with it.

It tows fine... have no problems backing or parking at full turns. I used Titan install bed measurements I found on the web. My truck tows at about 2000 revs and very seldom goes over 3500 even with cruise. The big tow was well worth it.

I would like to hear form others as to the advantages of the more expensive or slider hitches on a King Cab ( I know slider needed for Crew).

I kinda wondered if you would be on your own somewhat with the Reece and it sounds like you were. Strong work btw.

Sad the some of the hitch makers are neglecting the import market. But it does seem to be dominated by the big 3. I suspect that will change now that both Nissan and Toyota will have serious trucks. I'm told the growth area in the 5th wheel arena is the half ton market.

Mom has had to use her slider twice while parking (but she is new).

Just bought a nearly new 2003 5th wheel trailer (6,000lb, 25ft) that came with a used Reese 15K slider.
After speaking with tech support at both Reese and Valley, the Valley mounting kit for the Titan KC fits the Reese 15K slider perfectly. It bolts to the frame via existing tooling holes (except for one ½” hole that is easy to drill). Those Valley guys designed an excellent, minimally invasive mounting kit for our trucks.
I have only used it one weekend and 200 miles but I don’t see the need for the sliding feature yet. This is likely due to the long stretch of the goose neck on my Springdale 242.
The 5th wheel is certainly the way to go for me. The Titan pulls the trailer so much better than my 4-wheel trailer & boat weighing 2,000 pounds less than the 5th wheel! No white knuckles.

Does anyone have a recommendation for where to purchase the Valley Mounting Kit?

Also, can someone verify that Valley Part #V55000R is correct.

The only place I can find the mounting kit online is e-trailer .com

Hey folks, first post here! I'm looking to get a goose-neck hitch installed and wow, what a hassle! No one seems to know anything about it in my area. I finally spoke with a friend of mine at an RV dealership and they said that they can install one but it will void all warranties and that they would not be responsible if something goes wrong. Any ideas on this? Or, have any of you pulled a goose-neck with your Titan? We're using it to pull horse trailers. Love the truck, just need a hitch! Thanks!

I would Like to put a fifth wheel hitch in my truck my question is will I have to remove the rails (utility bed ) from the floor of the bed to make it work
I don't use them or have a need yet to use them.

My mounting rails for the 5th wheel hitch (Reese) just went right over the utilitrac rails. You will need to remove the rubber inserts.

I cut one insert in half so I can still slide it in on both tracks up to where the hitch crossmembers are. That may be hard to picture / understand but it works. With the hitch removed you only loose a couple inches of trac but would not be able to slide any accessory in past the crossmembers. Tie downs still work fine

I should have been more clear in my original post about the B&W Turnover Ball hitch. This is primarily designed for towing with a gooseneck ball and they have a conversion kit for a 5'er.

You will not void your warrenty on the Titan if that's what the dealer is talking about. I downloaded Nisan Towing Guide and it sadi the KC Titan is the only one designed for towing a 5th Wheel.

Again, this is a nebulous issue for us Titan owners.

With two people and two dogs in the cab, I'm down to a payload capacity of ~900 lbs. Don't know how much the hitch itself weighs, but les say 25 lbs. minimum. Now we're down to 875 lbs. How is it that you guys are able to find a fifth wheel and stay under the payload capacity? I'd LOVE to be able to tow a 5th, but let's just say I'm overly cautious.
