Clank when Shifting from Park to Drive on boat launch

When I'm on the incline on the boat launch, shifting out of "Park" makes a real loud CLANK like I broke an axle or something. I've noticed it too when just on a hill with the boat hooked up, it makes the same loud clank sound when I shift out of park.

I press the brake pedal all the way down before shifting out but it still makes the sound. I'm afraid something will break, is this normal??

Do you guys get this too? It's fine when i'm on level ground and without the boat it shifts fine.

It's normal. Next time set the parking brake before putting it into park. That should eliminate that loud noise you here, remember to release the parking brake after you put it in drive. This will help when parking on any incline.

parkin break will help a little but wont stop it. Mine will do it parking sometimes goin from R to D... It is the backlash in the rear end. If you take it to the dealership they will adjust it for you and reslove the issue

There are tons of forum members that have a clank when shifting immediately from reverse to drive or vice versa. You are the first member to say that it's adjustable. I would like to hear more about this adjustment since the dealer said it is normal.

The noise fellowx was talking about is not the rearend, it's the transmission linkage binding since it was put in park on an incline.

I'd start using the emergency/parking brake before you put it in park. Not only will you stop the clunk but you'll lessen the chance of this happening.

Re: Clank when Shifting from Park to Drive on boat launch

I get the same clank when on the ramp. The parking brake just doesn't hold to well. Not sure if it can be adjusted tighter or not.

It can be adjusted. I finally have my parking brake adjusted so that the truck does not move. This was my fourth adjustment before they got it right, with new brake parts.

On inclines I put the tranny in neutral then set the parking brake. Dont know if it would be any different than just setting the parking brake and then putting it in park.

Did you get this adjusted by the dealer on Warranty? If so then I need this done as my parking brake won't hold the truck on a slight incline. And I am sure that many other titan owners need an adjustment also.

Re: Clank when Shifting from Park to Drive on boat launch

I had my parking brake tightned by dealer about a month ago. I have an app. to have it done next week with oil change. I use tyhe parking brake every time I park, I have completley eliminated the clunk. Makes the brake loose quicker though.
