Travel Trailer Hauling

I'm considering purchasing the following Sunnybrook travel trailer (TT) but the numbers are telling me I will be at the GVWR limit of my Titan with my wife and 3 kids and no additional cargo. This is due largely in part to the 902 lb tongue weight of the TT. The specs on the TT are as follows:

Sunnybrook Sunset Creek 298BHS,
Dry Hitch Weight/lbs. 902
Dry Gross Weight/lbs. 6,615
Exterior Length 33'-6"

I would like to be able to travel anywhere in the US and Canada without being concerned about safety or excessive wear and tear on the truck. Anyone towing a similar rig and have any experience/recommendations.

ever look at the trailmanor TTs - very light for the size.

Re: Travel Trailer Hauling

Yes, I have had a look at the Trailmanor TT, but am leaning towards the more conventional TT setup.

Re: Travel Trailer Hauling

There will be people on here that will tell you that you will be fine but you will regret it. What you are looking at it to much for the Titan. I would be more concerned about the length then the weight. On a flat area you would probably be fine, but going up a steep grade with a cross wind and a semi passing you will give you white knuckles. Just my opinion. Look at the post prior to this one about the FS2500. You will be in the same situation.

Re: Travel Trailer Hauling

I have the Sunset Creek 267RL, the quality;fit and finish is outstanding. We have had it for almost 6 months and absolutly love it. The next part is the towing experience. The Titan is very capable; by the way I have an 04, CC, BT, 4X4. With a good weight distributing hitch and some type of anti-sway you will be fine. I would recomend the dual cam setup, the friction type is a pain when you need to turn sharp corners. I dont think the weight is a problem at all, but you need to consider the gas milaege. I had four adults, not exactly light adults either, and did manage to get a whopping 7 MPG! I was towing up small grades and trying to keep with the flow of traffic as much as possible. I will say, I never felt the Titan did not have enough left to keep accelerating. Wow, this post got long quick........lol If you have any more questions, just PM me.

Re: Travel Trailer Hauling

I have a 31ft Rockwood with a 1000 pound hitch weight, 6300 pound trailer weight. I use the equilizer weight distrubution hitch which works real good. The titan pulls hard on flat, land don't know about hills due to that i live in Louisiana, but for the trailer you are getting you should do fine. Also have Firestone air bags which helps keep it stable with cross winds, and also with keeping the rearend level ( but don"t put more than 10psi in the bags it make them hard as a rock). Hpoe this helps.

Re: Travel Trailer Hauling

Also you have around 1575 GVWR so you should have around 600 pounds to spare which you should be ok.

Re: Travel Trailer Hauling

The Titan can tow it for sure. Would I want to tow that TT across the country and in the mountains with my family in it? Not a chance! Not sure if you have the BT package or not but you better with that trailer. My TT at around 6500#s loaded with family has plenty of power but it lacks the gearing for the long haul and I can feel it. Gears are constantly shifting even on the slightest hill.

Re: Travel Trailer Hauling

Guys, thanks for the input and suggestions, it has helped me come to the conclusion that I am close to the envelope with my CC Titan w/BT and a whole lot of toys. I have decided to err on the conservative side and downsize to a 26-27 ft Bunkhouse TT.

Re: Travel Trailer Hauling

check the trailmanor series - very light, which goes well with my Little Tow.

Re: Travel Trailer Hauling

Good choice in reconsidering on the side of safety. The sunnybrooks are really nice, but on the heavy side for a TT. The luxury TT's are really too heavy for the Titan. The lightweights and shorter models are the way to go. You may want to consider a hybrid TT, more bed, more interior space and shorter/lighter. I have a KZ 22CP and its interior space exceeds my neighbors 27' Fleetwood Terry bunkhouse.

Re: Travel Trailer Hauling

I have a Jay Flight 29FBS 32 1/2 bunkhouse. It is great if you have a family - The dry weight is #6600 to 7000 and the Titan can pull it fine. The hitch weight problem can be corrected with a WD hitch and to control the sway - a dual cam set-up is best. Because of the length, the friction really doesn't work. As long as I heep it at 62-65mph I have no problems. Haven't tried going faster, but with the size of this trailer, I don't think it would be wise.

Jay Flight has some good layouts.
