I have called 3 dealers for prices on a hitch. They all say $300 for just the hitch and $30 or more for the 7 pin harness. 2 of the 3 say that there are no relays needed and the one that could give me relay prices say $29 each and that I need 3 of them. This sounds high to me, what should this cost and do I need relays or not?
The dealer is right on the prices. It needs the relays for the trailer lights to work. I guess that's why they charge $395 for the tow package(Hitch, Harness, & Relays). I got the guy that sold me my Titan to give me the dealership price for the relays. They only cost the dealer like $13/piece. It's definently expensive.
I went with a Valley Class IV hithc from etrailer.com . I was able to get the hitch and a wiring harness that has both 8 and 4 pin connectors for ~ $160 delivered.
I think it worked out well. The connector looks a little crooked in the pic but it's not. The picture is off level.

Cool, that's pretty much the same setup i went with (just a different brand hitch) from the same place.
I also got the same 7/4 pin connector. But when i tried to mount it where you did; i couldn't open the door much. How did you do it? use a spacer? or just slap it on there, and my truck is weird?
oh, and the factory one for 179 is a good deal; until you notice it's $100 for shipping...
My shipping was 99 cents btw (because the price went over $150 with the wiring harness).
When i mounted the harness, I pulled the trim peice off the bumber so that I could get e wrench in there to tighten the nuts up. It was some time ago so I do not remember the specifics. Sorry!
If I had the capabilities at the time I wuld have just tacked it with a welder to the hitch.
Sorry about the slow response I just changed ISP's.

I found the cheapest price on the net at the time, $179 (includes relays and everything) and then called dealers till I found a price matcher. showed him the print out and that was it - got the factory hitch for $179 plus tax and no shipping. 10 minutes to bolt up but ya gotta have a torque wrench and 18mm 6 point socket.
I just added a hitch to my truck also, and i know i need a harness, but i'm not sure what relays I need or how many, can anyone help me out before I go to the dealer and get robbed?

I used item # 30608 from etrailer.com which is a valley industries part.
You have an 04' so that kit comes with the 2 relays you'll need. 06's require 3 relays, but that shouldn't effect you.
In the directions for that part # on that website, it shows the 2 relays and where they go.
