My white back up lights don't turn on when my boat is hooked up.

When I have my boat hooked up to my factory hitch and wiring harness the back up lights in the tail lights don't turn on when I go down the boat ramp. When I have nothing plugged in to the factory hitch wire harness the tail light back up lights come on. Is it just me?

They don't light up, on the truck? But they do soon as you unhook the trailer harness?
Are you useing the factory 7 pin connector on the truck, and what is the connector type on the trailer?

They only light up when there is no trailer. I'm using the factory 7 pin. The connector type on the trailer is flat. But I have an adapter that goes from the flat plug to a circle plug that fits on the truck. Why?

Although it is a 7 pin connector, the trailer end has only 4 pins.

the 4 pin connector doesn't support back-up lights. It only handles running lights (taillights), brake lights, left & right turn signals.

BTW...I always disconnect the trailer lights when I back down the boat ramp. Most of the other boat owners I know do also.
