weight rating of oem hitch

The hitch offered on yournissanparts.com is advertised as an oem part which suggests to me that it is the same hitch that would come on a Titan that has the Big Tow package. If this is the case, why is the rating on it only #7500 pounds? It doesn't make sense that they'd put on a hitch that is 2000 pounds shy of the vehicles' tow capacity. Is there something i'm missing / is the hitch actually capable of more weight / or is that correct? Thanks for any insight.

it's the same hitch, but the rating is tied to the gears on the vehicle also. BigTow Titans have different gearing from non BigTow.

Re: weight rating of oem hitch

I got the part about the gears, but the max weight on the hitch is still 7500 pounds. My thought was if the truck can tow 9500 pounds equip it with a hitch that can also tow 9500 pounds.

Re: weight rating of oem hitch

The rating on the hitch alone is what the hitch is rated for, not the truck it's installed on.
The B/T hitch is rated for 10,000 lbs w/WD set up, if your hitch is rated for anything less, then it's not the factory B/T hitch.
These numbers come right off the hitch itself...

Re: weight rating of oem hitch

I bought my hitch reciever at the dealership and the max load is 7500lbs. If you want to tow more you need to buy the ball and mount with the extra bars (i forgot what it's called) to tow a max of 9500lbs.

Re: weight rating of oem hitch

The reciever w/ factory BT is rated right there on the reciever to tow 10,000 lbs w/ a WD hitch, there is no tow rating of 7500 lbs anywere on my reciever.
